A former Shepparton Swans coach has been deregistered by AFL Victoria after receiving a third suspension in 18 months.

Perry Meka, a 2002 and 2006 premiership-winning coach with the now defunct Ardmona in the Kyabram District League, was handed a third sanction in 18 months while at the helm of Stawell in the Wimmera league this season.
Meka was suspended for four matches for umpire abuse during Stawell’s semi-final loss to eventual premier Nhill, after eight matches suspended in 2025 from two separate incidents.
Meka’s ban of 12 matches across 18 months does not surpass the 16 needed for deregistration, but AFL Victoria told News Corpthe peak body reviewed Meka under appendix point 7.3 of the National Community Football Policy Handbook, which allowed them to impose further actions after his latest offence.
Under the deregistration ruling, Meka must wait 12 months before applying for any role in local football, and any future involvement will require AFL Victoria's approval.
Meka played more than 500 games and kicked more than 2000 goals during his playing days, before several years of coaching local Australian rules, including with the GVL’s Swans.
He also spent time as a development coach in the VFL for the Northern Blues.
