Nine golfers from Corowa Golf Club played 72 holes of golf on Monday, December 18, had an overall 92 birdies and four eagles, and covered about 32 kms to raise funds for Cancer Council Australia. The golfers raised $4,000 for the nation-wide Cancer Council’s Longest Golf Day.

The ultimate golf challenge to walk and play 72 holes in one day tested their skill, strength and stamina.
Hit off time was 6.00am and around 8.10pm, the 72 holes were completed. Just a 30-minute luncheon adjournment took place.
All players had no hesitation signing up for such a worthy cause, with club professional James Gordon ensuring the idea by former professional Rob Rowe at Corowa some five years ago was continued.
“It’s raising money for Cancer Council to fund research into cancer – it’s a wonderful cause,” he told The Free Press.

Corowa Golf Club’s operations manager Nathan Thomas lost his mother-in-law last year to cancer. “It’s a lot of holes in one day, particularly walking them but it’s nothing compared to what people go through or went through with their cancer,” he said. “We reached our target of $4,000.”
The standard of golf was excellent. James had an amazing 33 birdies and two eagles, Nathan 19 birdies and two eagles, junior stars Beau Davis and Jayden Forge each hit one under-par ten times, as did Brad Glare and Phil Willcoxson managed four birdies.

Had James made a putt on the very last hole, he would have carded a 59 but had to settle for a 60. Interesting to note here the birdies and eagles by the club’s professional equalled the 33 and two respectively for birdies and eagles by Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort’s second year trainee professional Baxter Droop on December 15.
