The Hoppers put in a game of contrasts, playing extremely poorly in the first and last terms and being extremely competitive in the middle of the match.
Picola were up and about early, winning clearances and able to spread from halfback, giving them a six-goal break at quarter time.
The Hoppers were in the game in terms two and three with Welsh dominant in the middle, the defence holding together, and the only problem the final kick into the forward line not hitting its target.
Oli Cope and Jack Cooke were our key defenders this week, never giving up and making Picola’s forwards work for their goals.
Both George McBurnie and Tom Ryan were important within the midfield, unfortunately we struggled to convert that hard work into goals. Denver Bruce put in a lot of good work up forward however the good work was blown away with Picola having a 10-goal final term for an easy victory.
Hoppers need to regroup and focus on Deni this week.

Best: B Bone, Z Garner, K Hughes, J Palmer, J Ferguson, L Martin.
The Hoppers were right in this game all day - being seven points down at the final break - but couldn’t hang in there, losing by 27. Rennie were off to a great start, leading by a goal early as Longy was clunking them up forward, Boner was hard at it and Hughes was caning them.
Picola had one big forward who was able to provide a target despite the work of ‘Clive’ Palmer and Massey Ferg. But a solid effort by the magoos.

Under 11s
It was a frosty start to the Under 11s out at Picola between the Blues and the Hoppers, and there were plenty of kids standing still with crossed arms and shivering thinking that this was the best option to stay warm.
But once Jetta Oughton got onto the field, his voice and hardness at the contest got the Hoppers team and, in particular, his brother Maddox up and running and there was no looking back.
Jack Bruce joined in kicking three goals and displaying great leadership. George Styles created forward pressure, resulting in a number of goals to teammates. Abel Lewis was amazing at holding his position and the fort down back. Harry Johnson showed wonderful sportsmanship.
Thanks to the Picola United team for lending the Hoppers a couple of players until the reinforcements who were running late arrived. Thanks to all the helpers who help out each week to keep the little Hoppers jumping! Go Hoppers!

Netball
A Grade
Rennie 40 defeated Picola United 24
Sitting equal on the ladder Rennie knew Picola were going to be good competition and, boy, did we rise to the occasion.
Sticking to our game plan of low and controlled ball, Rennie were able to hit quarter-time with a slight lead.
Moving Laynee Rhodes into WA in the second quarter opened up our attack end and the ball began to flow much easier. Rennie's confidence was slightly rattled in the second quarter when Picola’s defence was tough and physical but Sophie Coghill rose to the occasion and left Picola’s defenders wondering what happened.
Good hands over pressure from Heleena Shaw and Brooke McDougall forced errors and allowed our defenders to be able to pick off balls. A truly great team effort, each week this team’s ability grows and their hard work at trainings shows on Saturdays. Well done, girls!
Awards: RNC Incentive - Sophie Coghill; RNC Incentive - Laynee Rhodes; Mulwala Bakery - Eliana Martin; Miss Dolly - Brooke McDougall; Free as a Bird - Heleena Shaw.
B Grade
Rennie 51 defeated Picola United 33
What a game for our B Grade girls this week. Coming up against a tough Picola side who had strength and experience, the Hoppers knew they had to go back to the basics and play with precision.
Georgia Phillips came out to play this week - with Picola underestimating her agility she was able to pick off and pull in intercepts all game. She was paired with the excellent defensive pressure of Celine Collins Bye and Jess Barton, showing why communication is key. Height was not needed for this combo, proving that body-on-body and eyes for the ball would create enough doubt in Picola's feeders that they could then create a turnover.
Alainah Bye is continuing to show her leadership on the court with her voice, change of pace and ability to take feedback and implement on the court. Alainah had a ripper game and was the definition of a team player.
All the girls worked well, feeding the ball into the goalers who worked tirelessly. Showing skill through screens and mixing up the play repeatedly allowed the B Grade girls to stretch the score out quarter by quarter. Well done, girls!
Awards: RNC Incentive - Georgia Phillips; Mulwala Bakery - Celine Collins Bye; ClubMulwala - Jess Barton; Showcase Jewellers - Alainah Bye.
C Grade
Rennie 37 defeated Picola United 32
It was a closely contested game against Picola United this week. Despite the heat and having three teammates absent, Rennie emerged victorious.
Thank you to Lucy Bassett who stepped up from U17s to fill a gap in our defensive end - Lucy blended in well with the team and demonstrated great skill and ability in a close game.
The use of rolling subs this week saw Leila and Haylee at times shifting out of the goal ring and into the midcourt with ease. A great defensive game by Sarah D and Gaby highlighted their ability to read the play and resulted in numerous intercepts and rebounds which had the Picola goalers rattled for the better half of the first quarter.
The exceptional communication between Georgia, Nada and Meg were instrumental in Rennie’s success. Their seamless coordination down the court and strategic use of the defensive midcourters to reset plays, moving into the attacking third, ensured possession and created more opportunities to advance into the goal ring.
Once again, the dynamic teamwork and accuracy of shots from Sarah C, Leila and Haylee meant the hard-earnt intercepts and turnovers from teammates down the court were rewarded. Both teams showcased a strong performance, but Rennie’s cohesive team play and effective communication across the court ultimately secured their victory.

C Reserve
Rennie 24 lost to Picola United 27
After a well-deserved break last week the C Ressie Legends were pumped and ready to go. Still in holiday mode the girls took a bit of warming up, trailing by seven goals at the first break.
The second quarter saw Shez ‘Ricky Ds’ McBurnie put a show for the crowd in centre, tearing up the entire court.
Trudie ‘Trucker’ Long trucked her way around in GD with Gail in GK, keeping Picola a goal behind that quarter. Change is sometimes as good as a holiday and, goodness gracious, was Mykie a holiday. Nothing like playing in foreign territory and making slotting goals look like light work.
Rennie came out guns blazing in the third, determined to keep the crowd on the edge of their seats. Jae was picking off balls left, right and centre - you’d almost think she picked fruit for a living, she did it that well.
Tegan and Illa worked together like an old lady’s sewing kits - clean and precise - with Illa working the ball into the ring and Tegan popping goals like fine needle work.
Still trailing at the final break C Res wasn’t done yet. Lauz and Britta were making Picola’s life hell in the midcourt, causing absolute chaos similar to school pick-up. Unfortunately, this chaos was not enough and Picola proved to be too strong. But that doesn’t matter because we’re all winners in Amy’s eyes.
We look forward to welcoming back the rest of our small army next week as we trek back to our happy place of Hopperville to take on the mighty Rovers.

Rennie 76 defeated Picola United 13
Saturday we saw the U17s take on Picola at their home ground, with the gate’s entrance sneaking up on us on arrival - that’s how our score ended up.
The Picola girls put on great pressure down the court, had a great few turnovers making it seem and feel the score was closer than it was!
Once The Rennie U17s settled in and played their own game, they really put into play the work we’ve been doing during trainings, working on their drives and front cuts and defensive pressure down court, and it was all showing today.
The girls started to use their voices on the court to let one another know they’re there, and the team encouragement is improving week to week!
The girls never seem to disappoint us with just how well they all take on quarter-time discussion and put it into play!
We’ve been lucky enough to have such a versatile team, with the girls being superstars in whichever position we throw at them and it has allowed us to have quite a few great combinations of positions on court.

Rennie 27 defeated Picola United 24
The U15s played their best game this week against a tough side. All areas of the court worked well. The defence was very strong with Sienna, Samantha and Kate defending every ball and making it a nightmare for Picola to work the ball down their end.
Charlotte, Jasi and Layla worked extremely well in goals together, missing very few while Mim, Mia and Michelle made many turnovers in the midcourt.
Rennie’s relentless determination on the court proved too much for Picola, resulting in a well-deserved win with an eight-goal turnaround.

Another cold start but the girls soon warmed up and played another great team game against Picola.
Our attacking end was on fire, sinking plenty of goals with Maisie, Maka and Ava rotating in at half-time.
Isabel and Cydee provided strong drives and good leads to bring the ball down the court and feed into the ring.
Defensively Lily, Poppie and Sienna were strong and put into practice some strategies we worked on in training this week.
Keeping changes minimal allowed the girls to really settle into their roles and made for a consistent team game.
