An undermanned Corowa-Rutherglen took on Myrtleford on a warm day in the hills, looking to bounce back after a gut-wrenching two-point loss to long-time powerhouse Albury Tigers.
The Saints took full advantage early, making the most of effective inside 50s and blasting out to a three-goal buffer in the opening stages.
The Roos had some late outs which provided headaches for coach Daryn Creswell. Losing Tyler Roos (sick) and big man Nathan Richards (injured) before the game was always going to have an impact.
Some last-minute changes to the line-up allowed new recruits Jimmy Wells and Fletcher Parker to be rewarded with senior debuts.
Myrtleford were relentless in transition, allowing them to hit the scoreboard consistently.
The Roos showed glimpses of what they can be when they have the ball in hand and are able to capitalise on opposition errors.
The twin towers, Kaelan Bradtke and Darcy Hope, chimed in with two goals apiece, injecting much-needed energy into the group.
GWS VFL-listed Liam McCarthy showed composure and precision coming out of defence, crafting several strong passages of play being named in the best.
Former Griffith Swan turned Roo Jack Rowston also featured putting together an impressive early start to 2025.
Despite a big leap whilst on the mark, this Myrtleford player couldn’t stop Roo star Kaelan Bradkte kicking high and long into the Roos’ forward line.
Roo Darcy Melksham forces a Myrtleford player to get a quick handpass away.
Next week, Corowa will need to regroup as they host a spirited Wodonga Bulldogs outfit, fresh off an impressive win over powerhouse Yarrawonga.

Saints sweep aside spirited young Roos
The development squad set out to make amends after last week’s tough outing against Albury and looked for a start fast.
Much like their senior counterparts, the Saints came out firing, striking early in the opening term and making the most of their forward entries.
The young Roos struggled to find answers to the Saints’ relentless attack.
The Roos managed to hit the scoreboard through Judd Kushchurt, who slotted a classy goal from just outside the 50-metre arc.
A restructured forward setup began to show promise, with Jeremy Stevenson adding some much-needed experience and poise.
His presence helped steady the ship and the Roos were able to claw the margin back to just 14 points down at the main break.
The Saints, however, lifted again in the second half, increasing their pressure and control around the ball.
Despite flashes of brilliance from Mitchell Scott and Caleb Bertram, who worked hard to match the Saints’ midfield intensity, the experienced Saints outfit proved too strong.
In the end, the Saints powered to a 38-point win, leaving the Roos to regroup.
They’ll be looking to bounce back next week against the Wodonga Bulldogs and ensure the struggles of the past two rounds don’t become a trend.
Corowa-Rutherglen 4.6.30 lost to Myrtleford 9.14.68.
The Under 18s looked to keep their two game win streak alive against the Myrtleford Saints.
A picturesque day up in the hills saw the Roos get off to a strong start with early shots on goal from Lucas Webb and Deagan Purcell.
However, the Saints responded with goals of their own to keep the margin close going into the first quarter break.
With dewy conditions still present, it was difficult for the Roos to execute on certain skills, allowing Myrtleford to dominate territory.
Angus Coghill kept the back six stable, while Jayden Forge and Jay Lavis looked to take advantage of the wide ground and stretch Myrtleford’s defence.
With seven points separating both sides at half time, Isaac Dickinson took over in the second half, booting two crucial goals, and playing across the entire ground.
With Dickinson playing higher up the ground, the forwards started to control more of the ball and hold position.
However, when the Saints did look to attack, Archer Coppolino stood tall in defence and won all of his match ups, allowing the Roos to rebound.
Corowa-Rutherglen 10.8.68 def Myrtleford 8.6.54
