Competing at the Sydney Olympic course at Penrith, Julie came away with two bronze medals from her four events.
The first event was the E class quad scull competing with three scullers from Albert Part/ South Melbourne R.C.
The crew showed great early speed taking the lead and holding on to take the heat win. The final featured eight quad sculls and in a tight battle down the course with little separating the first four crews.
Julie’s crew improved on their heat time to finish just out of the medals in fourth place. Julie’s number one boat was the E single scull as she has been working hard on the Murray River in preparation for this event.
Julie lined up in the heat against a full field and once again took the early lead. As the race progressed Julie cruised over the line to take the win and progress through to the final.
The final featured a strong field of scullers from across Australia.
Julie started well and was keeping pace with the leading pack.
As the race progressed the field split with four scullers vying for the three medals.
Julie made a last effort with the finish line fast approaching, holding on for a much-deserved bronze medal.
Julie teamed up with a new combination of scullers from Black Mountain R.C in the F quad scull.
With eight quad sculls lining up a top four finish was required to progress through to the final.
The new combination had a strong row to keep in front of two crews and finish in sixth place.
The final event for Julie was the super competitive D class quad scull featuring the State crews average age 50 - 55 years.
Julie teamed with two APSM and a Ballarat City sculler in heat one needing a top four place to progress.
The crew showed great speed over the course to lead all the way and move into the final.
The final of eight featured four State Representative crews and a hotly contested race was on show.
Once again Julie’s crew showed great team work to keep pace with the early leaders.
As the Queensland and Victorian crews took the lead little separated Julies Crew and the NSW crew.
With a great sprint to the line Queensland held of the Victorians with Julie’s crew holding off the NSW crew to claim the bronze medal, and successful regatta for Julie.
The club now focusses on pre-season with gym and strength building training 4.30pm Monday and Wednesday and on the Water. Sunday mornings from 9am.
