Roos 38 defeated North Albury 37
Down for 59 minutes, Corowa came good in the last minute, coming back from six to snatch a thrilling one goal victory over North Albury.
Last Saturday’s round eight match saw the Ovens and Murray FNL put their support behind the Terry Socks it to Cancer round, raising funds for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
Corowa Rutherglen A grade had a tough match up against North Albury who have continued to dominate as well on the A grade ladder and had only dropped one game so far against Yarrawonga.
The A grade girls went into the game missing Lou Madden who was watching her twin brother debut for GWS.
This was going to be a hard-fought game to the end for the A graders. Sally once again showing her versatility jumping into the GS position. She worked well with Indi and the whole team’s persistence paid off.
Three-time Toni Wilson Medallist Sophie Hanrahan was spectacular in those final 60 seconds.
From 25+ degree heat to essentially a snow storm, it was beautiful weather for netball against the Hoppers.
A ripping game was played, messy at times, low scoring due to a high volume of turnovers but lots of skilled netball on display too.
One more game next week against Lavington will see the club at the half-way point of the season.
The A graders sit one game clear of Yarrawonga.
Player’s player went to Soph Hanrahan who kept the Roos in the game with great rebounds and turnovers in defence.
Coach’s award went to Indi Frauenfelder who put up a large volume of goals and played with intensity at all the right moments.
Opposition MVP went to Gabe McRae who was as reliable as ever in C against four-time Toni Wilson Medallist Em Browne.
Keen for the final game of the first lap of the season next week.
B Grade
Roos 39 defeated by North Albury 49
Another tough day for the B grade side. Trailing for the first two quarters of the game, the Roos girls dug deep to bring the score within five at the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw some turnovers, which North Albury was able to capitalise on. Keep working hard girls and the rewards will come your way.
Awards: Audrey Hogan (Club 1), Jade Lane (Thrive Wellness) and Kelsea Bullivant (Ladies Committee).
C Grade
Roos 39 defeated by North Albury 40
Another close encounter for the C grade girls. The Roos girls were leading the first half of the game that saw great passages of play.
After half time the North Albury girls applied the pressure scoring 17 goals to the Roos five for the third quarter.
The last quarter was intense with the Corowa girls finishing with nine goals but unfortunately fell short to lose by one goal.
Great team effort.
Awards: Chelsea Parker (Club 1), Charlotte Bott (Thrive Wellness), Sommers Hogan (Ladies Committee) and Sophie Kennedy (MVP).
17 and Under
Roos 33 drew with North Albury 33
The North Albury girls started the game off strong but the Roos girls were able to peg back the score and were 25 a piece at half time.
The second half was a tight contest with the Corowa girls winning the last quarter by one goal only to have the final siren sound with the game resulting in a draw.
Awards: Keeley Symonds (Docs) – played a strong attacking game in WA, Alex Gniel (Sportspower) – another solid game in goal circle and Charlotte Broad (Ladies Committee) – stepped up to play goals and worked well with Alex.
15 and Under
Roos 30 defeated by North Albury 50
The Under 15s went down 50–30 in a tough contest, but the final score doesn’t reflect the determination shown by the girls.
After a challenging first quarter, the team settled in, matched the intensity, and began playing the Roos style of netball.
There were some fantastic passages of play throughout the game, and every player stepped up and played their role.
Well done to all the girls for their effort and teamwork
Awards: Maci Coats (Origin Clothing & MVP) – had an outstanding game in defence, reading the play beautifully and driving strongly down the court. She was everywhere and thoroughly deserved the best on court award.
Clodagh Way (The Dress Hire) – despite being unwell during the week, was a calm and composed presence on court. Her feeds into the ring were timed perfectly, and she provided great leadership in attack.
Molly Colman (Ladies Committee) – displayed excellent defensive effort. She listened, implemented everything asked of her, and played with great focus and determination.
