Competing against 40-50 other skilled players from across the state, Liam showcased his exceptional talent and determination, ultimately securing his place in the top 16 and solidifying his spot on the team.
Liam, a 26-year-old dart enthusiast, will join eight other male players from various locations across Victoria, including Melbourne and Shepparton. This diverse group of individuals will represent the state team in the upcoming Australian Darts Open, scheduled to take place in Moama this August.
The highly anticipated event will see both Australian and international players compete for a substantial total prize pool of $50,000.
Liam stated that he was thrilled to have accomplished this milestone, considering it was his first time making the state team.
“I was pretty happy to make the team. It’s a good achievement,” he said. “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me including my sponsors Dart World Australia and MDK Bricklaying.”
Often spending many weekends away playing competitively Liam’s dedication to the sport and relentless practice has paid off, granting him the opportunity to compete at such a prestigious level.
The Corowa District Darts Association is equally elated about Liam's achievement, with President Clint Snow acknowledging the significance of having a representative from the club participating in a state-level competition.
“We are stoked to have someone represent Corowa District Darts Association at a state level,” he said.
“The club is happy for Liam, and we wish him all the best.”
With the recent success of local talent Liam McDonnell, the Corowa District Darts Association is looking to expand its membership and extend a warm invitation to anyone interested in joining their friendly club.
Whether you're a seasoned player or a complete beginner looking to learn the game, Clint said the club offers a supportive environment that encourages growth and camaraderie.
“We are looking to build the club and would like to welcome anyone who might be interested in tryingg new. It’s a fun club to be around and very social,” he said.
This Wednesday (June 7) the club is hosting a money game at the Corowa Golf Club from 6.45pm with names in by 7pm. There will be raffles and people to speak to for anyone interested in joining a team in the Winter season. Visit Corowa District Darts Association on Facebook for more information.
