Mulwala recorded its biggest win for many years last Saturday, thrashing Echuca United by 142 points at Lonsdale Reserve.
The Lions produced a strong four quarter effort, winning 25.19.169 to 4.3.27.
Missing from the start was their accuracy in front of goal as their first four shots were behinds. They straightened up through the strong work of Matt Gorman and the ever-reliable Sean Robinson to take a five-goal lead into quarter time.
Jackson Meade provided a few highlights in the second quarter with his strong marking on the lead and Brodie Tyson resting forward from the ruck was giving the Echuca backlines headaches kicking a couple of goals. The magnets were moving rapidly as Harry Meade entered the forward line to kick a great running goal from his usual backline position.
Echuca came out strong in the third quarter and outscored the Mulwala team that looked as though they had put the queue in the rack. A stern three-quarter-time speech from coach Bodhi Butts got the team out of its slump as they began to move the ball more fluently and increase the goals-to-points ratio. Connor Griffiths and Matt Gorman were their usual influential selves and Jackson Meade played arguably his best game for the year as the team went on to record a strong victory.
Twelve players shared the goals, with Jack Sutherland, Will Gorman, Charlie McKenna and Jack Meade all booting three goals.
With a big percentage boost, Mulwala has climbed to third on the Murray league ladder, with a 3-2 record to date this season. Five other teams also have three wins.
Off to Numurkah this week and then we have the Club Ball so if you haven’t got your tickets yet see Cara and get on down to what is always a fantastic night.
