“Even though this time of year is commonly referred to as preseason, there is a twist,” club president Darryl Hore said.
“This night is for everyone. Not just netballers or footballers, everyone. Mums, dads, aunts, uncles, kids of all ages and even grab your neighbours.
“It's time for the entire club and community to come together and be united for the season ahead.”
New senior football coach Brett Chapman is planning the night. If you ever wanted to run around and do some light training with your kids, this is your opportunity.
The president is excited for next season.
“I've seen the work that the recruiters have put in, the Lisa Byatts of our club have not stopped,” Mr Hore said.
“It's a massive opportunity to have some fun as a club because believe me, the business side of things will be here before we know it.”
Chapman is looking forward to meeting the Wahgunyah community and getting back into coaching.
“I’ve always wanted to get back into a coaching role,” a former coach, onballer and best and fairest at North Coburg told The Free Press.
“I mentioned it to a friend of mine in Corowa, he mentioned it to Wahgunyah and they got in touch with me.”
From a football perspective, the Lions have recruited eight players for season 2023 and more good news regarding recruits is expected in the near future.
Chapman, self-employed in property maintenance, a Yarrawonga resident and turning 50-years-of-age in February, hopes a lot of people from Wahgunyah and anyone else interested turns up at Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve next Tuesday.
“Everyone is welcome,” the man popularly known as ‘Chappy’ said.
“There will be some fitness – aerobic fitness – for eleven sessions before Christmas and official pre-season will start early in the New Year.
“This fitness program will provide a good base for fitness in season 2023. Come on down!
In another boost for the Lions Marcel Meunier will once again coach the reserves, while experienced coach and footballer Michael Kreun will lead the next generation of Lions and take on the Under 17’s coaching role.
Despite the challenging 2022 year for the Lions, the club is working hard to rebuild their football side with the goal of being more competitive next year.
