Seymour has extended its winning streak to five games in the Goulburn Valley League A-grade netball competition following a clinical performance against Kyabram at the weekend.
Hosting the Bombers at Kings Park, the Lions stamped their authority on the contest from the outset, extending the lead at every break to walk away with a 62-31 win.
While Kyabram opened the scoring, Seymour dominated from its first centre possession, going on a five-goal run to quickly establish an early advantage and force a raft of early Bomber changes.
The two sides traded goals to end the term, with the Lions leading 10-5 at the first break, a lead they immediately built upon as the second quarter got under way.
Ellie Fuhrmeister and Ally Black continued their formidable shooting form inside the circle, converting on the work up the court to add six of the first nine goals for the term, and despite the Bombers rallying for a period, the Lions added a late flurry of goals to widen the margin to nine goals by half-time, leading 25-16.
After regrouping at the main break, Seymour came out firing to begin the third quarter and, in a punishing burst, put the game to bed.
Scoring 10 of the first 13 goals in the second half, the Lions were suddenly 16 goals to the good and showing no signs of slowing down, with Ruby Martin joining Fuhrmeister in the circle and pushing the lead at one stage out to 22 goals, with a late Kyabram score leaving Seymour ahead 44-23 at the final change.
It was rinse and repeat for the Lions in the final quarter, again going on a run to open the term which the Bombers seemed powerless to stop, while a strong finish saw Seymour sink eight of the final nine goals to secure the big 31-goal victory.
Bridie Cantwell was named Seymour’s best in the big win for her work in defence, with Lucy Zotti and Fuhrmeister also named in the best amid a full team performance.
The win ensures Seymour keeps hold of third spot with a one-and-a-half game advantage over fourth-placed Mooroopna, remaining unbeaten since the interleague bye.
The Lions now enjoy a week off due to the split round 13, before travelling to Princess Park on July 12 to take on sixth-placed Shepparton Swans to kick-start the run towards finals.
There are no easy contests remaining in the final third of the season for the Lions, with Mansfield in round 14 the only side they will face that is out of finals contention.
A brutal final month of the regular season will see Seymour host undefeated reigning premier Euroa in round 15 and embark on a road trip to take on seventh-placed Shepparton United in round 16, before clashes against Tatura and Shepparton in the final fortnight, which could have huge implications for the finals fixture.
