The Wahgunyah Lions finally got a home game against an in-form Barnawartha after a long stretch playing away.

The conditions were perfect, with the ground in great condition and the sun shining.

The Lions hit the ground running and started the game setting a hot pace with Kane and Ryan Mills dominating the centre clearances and continued driving the ball into the Lions' attack.

The back line was on everything that came their way with Kane Palmer, Dylan Langshaw and Reilly Rennick repelling everything.

The Lions found themselves 12 points up at the first change.

The second quarter started with the same intensity. Lawrence Roberts was everywhere, causing headaches for the Tigers with his hard running and in-and-under style of play, while AJ Dunstan was working hard and continued to gain possessions.

Mathew Cannelly was leading out from full forward, giving the Lions a great target and was supported with great delivery from Lachlan Phillips and the workhorse, Kane Maghamez.

After a solid second quarter, the Lions found themselves 10 points down at the main change.

Barnawartha came out in the third quarter and showed why they are a quality team with finals aspirations and controlled the ball at every stoppage.

Riley O'Kane and Branden Smith provided some hard contests, but the Tigers sat 33 points up at three quarter time, eventually running out 77 points winners.

Co-Coach John Luci remained upbeat in the rooms after the game, saying the team is seeing improvements each week and to now get back on the training track and work hard in preparation for the next challenge.
