Numbers were almost identical as last year, with this year’s 866 entries from players at some 50 golf clubs, mainly throughout Victoria.
About 100 diners attended the mid-week dinner where presentations took place after vice president Andrew Shell welcomed all attendees.
Mr Shell was speaking after apologies were received from President Laurie Bridgeman and First Lady Krys Bridgeman, along with CEO Peter Savy, and Life Members Philip and Karen Droop.
“The weather has been absolutely marvellous, I thank Evan Droop and his wonderful team from the Pro Shop, and the Lake and Murray Courses are in pristine condition so thank you to Chris Burgess and his wonderful team,” Mr Shell said.
Mr Shell expressed the club’s appreciation for the many players returning for the September tournament and for those playing for the first time.
Many terrific scores were registered by visitors and locals. Club captain Steve Buckley mentioned Joyce White’s “65 th” birthday the following day. That may not be true but she did contribute to an excellent +9 score on the Monday.
Mention was made by Steve of a first ever in his life – Pro Shop boss Evan Droop being speechless! The captain said Evan left the pro shop earlier in the week “on a mission” to the first tee stand on the Blue Executive where he noticed a golf car in the middle of the tee stand. Even when Collingwood continues to get beaten, Evan’s never speechless!
Apparently the cart users were following orders, to just follow the early morning cart track marks. Must have been two carts on that first tee.
It was a great night with plenty of talk and a packed dance floor to the music of Jade from Cobram.
