Moama’s winning start to the premier pennant season has come to an end at the hands of a classy South Bendigo side.

South was clinical in the 2021-22 preliminary final rematch, running out a 24-shot winner across four victorious rinks at Moama Bowling Club.

The Steamers were bested 62-86, falling to their first defeat of the season on the back of 11-24, 15-22, 19-21 and 17-19 rink defeats, charging home late in the match.
But it came too late, and the Steamers’ record now reads two wins, one loss and two draws following round cancellations associated with the floods.

Brad Campbell and Kevin Anderson’s rinks were best performed for Moama, and save for a last-shot effort from South Bendigo it could have been a win for Anderson’s rink.
But a strong first-up rink for Liam Crapper and the continued early-season form of Brad Holland ensured South remained on top.

Last time they met, South Bendigo was the better of the two sides in a 16-shot preliminary final victory, and Moama will be hoping to flip the script when the two sides meet again in round 14 at South Bendigo.
The result has knocked Moama out of the top four for the time being, with the Steamers slipping to fifth place.

After tackling the reigning premier one week, Moama will face another grand finalist this week.
The Steamers will hope to rebound against sixth-placed Eaglehawk for what they hope will be win number three for the season.

The 2021-22 runner-up fell to South Bendigo in the first round before picking up comfortable wins over Marong (30 shots) and Castlemaine (18 shots).
Moama has enjoyed victories over Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo and is still set to welcome bowls legend Alex Marshall to the young line-up before Christmas.
Premier pennant bowls was one of the few organised competitions around town to go ahead over the weekend, with Campaspe Playing Area poised to get under way on Saturday, November 28.
Millerick and Keenan named in Jackaroos squads
Moama’s Cassandra Millerick and Cameron Keenan have been picked in Australian Jackaroos pathways squads for 2023
Millerick, notching up her first Victorian test series appearance in July, has been named in the Emerging Jackaroos side, while young gun Keenan will join her in the squad.
