The Magpies entered the clash fresh off a solid Three Jacks victory over Echuca United, while The Road was arguably round one’s weakest performer in a big loss to Mulwala.
Heavily favoured at home, Moama lived up to expectations early, scoring nine of the game’s first 10 goals and taking a 15-5 lead into the first interval.
The Magpies were staunch defensively, keeping Congupna to a single digit score for the first half, the visitor only scoring four times in the second quarter as Carri Carter’s team went into the main break with a healthy 28-9 lead.
Moama’s rearguard only improved in the third term, allowing just three goals, but its attack was also humming, the Magpies scoring 10 of the quarter’s last 11 goals to head into the final period with a 30-goal advantage.
An early 5-0 run to start the fourth quarter ballooned Moama’s lead further, which was later accompanied by a 6-0 run to conclude the match, the Magpies storming to a 55-17 victory.
The attacking trio of Holly Swatton, Indiana Phillips and Jinaya Nurse led the rout with 23, 17 and 15 goals respectively.
Moama has the bye in round three, sitting pretty in second on the ladder heading into its first break of the season.
