Corowa’s first grade travelled to Belvoir’s home ground at Kelly Park, as a result of an overnight thunderstorm the start was delayed due to a wet outfield and the game reduced to 42 overs each.

Losing the toss Corowa was asked to field first, Nick Grant continued his strong second half of season nicking off opening bat Withers for one.
Belvoir regrouped and despite a number of plays and misses a strong partnership between opener Simmonds and number 3 Cooke developed and began to take the game away from Corowa with Cooke in particular looking to attack the short boundary. Kaelen Bradtke got the much needed wicket of Cooke for 67.
With score now 2 for 130, Corowa needed to keep taking wickets and fresh import Arthur Godsal provided with his first wicket for the club - Simmonds caught by Ryan Beveridge for 51.
With two fresh batsmen at the crease Corowa was able to drag the run rate back and continued to take wickets to restrict Belvoir to 6 for 186 with Nick Grant again the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 23 from his eight overs, Arthur Godsal also picked up two with Hatton and Bradtke nabbing one each.
Opening bats Beveridge and Grantham started brightly enjoying the extra pace on the ball moving the score along to 50 before a bowling change brought about a rash shot and Grantham was bowled for 24.
Matt Wilson joined Beveridge in need of some form and after some early nerves started to settle, Beveridge was caught behind for 29 with the score 70 when Jarred Lane joined Wilson at the crease. Despite some quality fast bowling from Jaensch who had both wickets, Wilson found his groove scoring freely with a 70 partnership run in good time to keep the game on a knife’s edge heading into the final ten overs.
Jaensch was keeping Belvoir in the game bowling Wilson and trapping Godsal LBW to tighten up the contest. Lane and Carr moved the equation to 24 from 4 overs when Lane was well caught in the deep for 37. Some good defensive bowling saw Corowa needing 13 from the last over to win, which despite the best efforts of Lowe and Carr the team fell 2 runs short in a fantastic game of cricket and a much improved team performance.
The club has welcomed Englishmen Arthur Godsal to finish the season with us and he brings with him high quality cricket experience and a great personality.
B Grade had a good win over Belvoir at Ball Park.
After winning the toss and deciding to bowl in the hot humid conditions, Phibbs and Burgess opened the bowling. Short sharp spells were the order of the day!
A wicket fell in the first over, and Burgess at the other end bowling extremely well without luck.
Melksham then came on and once again bowled well without luck, in his best spell for the year, went wicketless while only conceding 14 runs
The score moved to 42 before the next wicket fell with the wily offspin/occasional legspin bowler Athanitis starting the collapse, claiming 3-17 off 7 overs before declaring he was heading off for a rest.
He was well supported by comeback kings Paddy “Rick” Lavis and Kade “Spud“ Wilson, the latter claiming 2-8 from his bag of licorice of all sorts.
The boys fielded and bowled well for Belvoir to be all out for 99
With Paddy and Jord opening the batting, the boys made a steady start to the run chase, both looking the goods, before Eyers was out lbw for a 17 ball duck.
This brought Spud Wilson to the crease, looking to spend some time in the middle, not another wicket was lost as both men batted superbly picking the bad ones to score from, and keeping out the good ones.
Paddy, in a man of the match display with 1-20 and a 49 not out next to his name, Spud not far behind with 2-8 and 35 not out and a much needed win for the boys.
The batting woes continued to trouble Corowa C-Grade (Division 1) who went down to Lavington on Saturday.
The side made a bright start with Liam McDonell (45) and Lachie Raggett (24) putting on nearly 70 for the opening partnership.
The side was on target for a score of 150-plus but wickets fell regularly after drinks with only Riley Allan (21) providing major resistance.
A total of 131 was always going to be hard to defend and despite one early breakthrough, Lavington’s batsmen picked off the runs easily.
Lavington lost only four wickets as they reached the total with five overs to spare.
C Grade Div 2 have returned to the winners list with a 46 run victory over New City in Albury.
Batting first Corowa was in early trouble falling to 4 for 28, but with opener Matt Shipard (48) in good form and with Riley Carter (17) and Simon Osmond (34) lending support Corowa was able to get to 6 for 124. Tom Moloney (16) and Ned Harvey (23*) batted well at the end as Corowa was able to make it to 163 before being bowled out in 32 overs.
In reply all the Corowa bowlers bowled well in the steamy conditions. Openers Osmond (1/33) and Marc Playford (1/15) started well for the Roos while Taj Smith (2/9) and Justin Lewis (1/11) bowled well. Matt Bush (2/12), Ned Harvey (1/14) and Todd Werner (1/10) finished off the game as New City were bowled out for 117 in 30 overs.
The two Corowa sides clashed in the Under 14s. Corowa White won the toss and decided to bat. Corowa Blue bowled White out for 52, with Leroy Chester taking 3 for 5 and Jacob Kremmer taking 3 for 3, Tyler Abley and Brodie Eyers taking a wicket each and 2 run outs by great fielding from Archer Coppolino and Jayden Forge. Archie Bedford was the batsman to make double figures making 12.
Corowa Blue went out to chase the 52 runs quickly, Tex Longmire 22, Jayden Forge 14, Benji Hanrahan 13, a few with 2 and 3, and finished 7 for 69 with one day’s play to go. Levi Phibbs was great for White taking 3 for 4 off 3 overs while Toby Hanrahan took 2 for 11. The game continues this Saturday.
Corowa White Under 12s took on Lavington Teal, the boys were sent into the field on a very muggy Friday afternoon in Thurgoona. Bowling well, the White team were able to hold the opposition to 81 runs from their 20 overs. Wickets were shared between Lachie Douglas, Hudson Bilney, Cooper Patten and Jake Witherden, though the pick of the bowlers was Jagger Doody, whose 3/3 from 2 overs gave off some strong Bolandesque vibes.
The chase started well with a 34 run opening stand between Toby Hanrahan (27) and Nathias Price (2). Finny Douglas took to the crease confidently and showed the older boys how to run between the wickets. However, despite some defiant stands, particularly from Jake Witherden (10*), the boys fell just 5 runs shy of the target. A great effort from everyone.
Under 12’s Corowa Blue had a nail bitting victory over Wodonga in Wodonga. Bowling first in hot conditions the Corowa bowlers struggled with direction in the second half of the innings giving away 29 extras as Wodonga finished their 20 overs on 6 for 72. Archie Rhodes was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 for 4 off 3 overs. Other wicket takers were Jaxson McKinna, Blake Collins and Jackson Barber.
In reply Rhylee Barber (12) got off to a fast start on the slow outfield before going out, Will Forrest (5*) and Jaxson McKinna (9) got Corowa to 31 by 10 overs. Harry Norman (15*) with support from Blake Collins (8), Billy Barlow (1) and Franklin Murray-Wright (9*) was able to get Corowa over the line in the last over as Blue finished their 20 overs on 4 for 74.
