Corowa’s number nine batsmen Kaelan Bradtke top scored with unbeaten 26 in his side’s total of 92. Unfortunately for Corowa, top eight batsmen only made combined total of 44 runs. Photos by Simon Ginns.
To make this season’s finals, Corowa must win its last two games, starting with top of the ladder North Albury away this weekend.

Corowa hosted second placed Albury at Ball Park last Saturday. Albury won the toss and elected to bowl first with some bowler friendly conditions making life tough for openers Ryan Beveridge and the recalled Matt Wilson.
The pair dug in before Beveridge was bowled with the score on 18 with Wilson soon following for 10 and then Jarred Lane for 2 and Corowa had quickly slumped to 3 for 24. Patrick Lavis was digging in with Arthur Godsal however the latter was undone by an exceptional delivery followed quickly by Jeremy Carr and the side was reeling at 5 for 36.
Things did not improve with Lavis done by a rising delivery and Daniel Athanitis removed next ball Corowa was in deep trouble at 7 for 38. Jarryd Hatton looked good before a disastrous mix up and direct hit saw him run out, Nick Grant joined Kaelan Bradtke and they dug in grinding the score to 72 before a repeat of the “Gatting ball” saw Grant removed. Despite battling illness Bradtke delivered some lusty blows and with the help of Mark Athanitis got the score to 92 before the last wicket fell.
With a small total to defend things would need to start well however the team was guilty of maybe trying to do too much with Albury getting off to a flyer before Arthur Godsal grabbed the first wicket bowling Popko for 23.
Nick Grant then followed up with two wickets in an over shortly after to have Albury 3 for 45 and when Arthur took a sharp return catch with the score 51 there was hope. However that was to be in vain with Albury’s batsmen able to patiently grind to the required total in the 30th over.
B Grade saw a look into the future with six Under 16’s players taking to the field in the clash with Albury at Billson Park.
Being asked to bowl first, youngsters Jay Lavis and Jacob Fuge opened the bowling and bowled well. When Liam McDonell and Greg Burgess chimed in with two wickets each Corowa looked on top with Albury 5 for 59. But the lower end for Albury fired and they were able to amass 9 for 224 off their 45 overs. The young bowlers all bowled well with Fuge, Jack Eales and Blake Keenes all taking wickets in a good sign for the future.
In the chase Corowa started well enough with Liam McDonell (16), Lachlan Raggett (22) and Kade Wilson (15) getting starts as Corowa made it to 3 for 88. But when Doug Lavis (19) was quickly followed by son Jay (16) and then Ethan Lane and Greg Burgess, Corowa had lost 4 for 5 to be in big trouble at 7 for 93. Jack Eales (42) and Jordan Eyers (48*) batted brilliantly to add 89 runs before Eales was out in the last over as Corowa finished their 45 overs at 8 for 182.
C Grade Div 1 had the bye.
C Grade Div 2 returned to the winners’ list with a 53 runs victory over Baranduda at Balldale.
Batting first Corowa got off to a good start with Patrick Mitchell making 16, Matt Shippard 42 and Justin Lewis 30 as Corowa looked good at 1 for 94. But three quick wickets fell and the side looked in trouble at 4 for 113. But with veteran Ray Robins starring in his first game for the year, the team was able to make it to 8 for 229 off their 40 overs. Robins was at his destructive best smashing 81 which included 6 boundaries and 4 sixes. He was well supported by Riley Carter who finished 27 not out.
In reply Taj Smith was on fire with two early wickets and when Ray Robins chimed in Baranduda was struggling at 3 for 17. Smith put Baranduda behind the eight ball taking 2 for 12 off 6 overs and with the rest of the side bowling well they were able to bowl Baranduda out in the last over for 176. Riley Carter was the only other multiple wicket taker with 2 for 27, with Ned Harvey, Riley Allan, Matt Shippard and Jason Morris all getting a wicket each.
Under 14’s Blue took on Howlong at Howlong, were Howlong won the toss and elected to bat. Corowa was able to bowl out Howlong for 102 in 32 overs. Jacob Kremmer bowled well taking 3 for 8 off 4 overs. Tyler Abley also bowled well taking 2 for 13 off 4 overs, while Leroy Chester, Logan Chappell and Jordan Allan all took a wicket each.
Nick Grant breathed life into Corowa’s attempt to restrict Albury’s batsmen by claiming two quick wickets with his pace bowling.
Corowa had 5 overs to bat and finished the day at none for 11 with 40 overs to face next week.
Under 12’s Corowa Blue went down to the unbeaten and top of the ladder East Albury Blue at the Corowa High School. Batting first against a very good attack on a very slow outfield Rhylee Barber batted brilliantly to retire for 21 off his 25 balls. Will Forrest was able to make 9 not out, Archie Rhodes hit a six to make 7 not out and Cal Corcoran swung hard for his 6 as Corowa made it to 5 for 58 off the 20 overs.
In reply East Albury picked off the bad balls as they were able to reach the target in 10 overs. The boys stuck to the task well in the next 10 overs with two direct run outs to Harry Norman and Will Forrest along with wickets to Franklin Murray –Wright and Norman as East Albury finished their 20 overs at 6 for 105.
