Purples prevail over Pies

Moama took to the court on Saturday for its first Murray Netball League game of the 2025 season against Nathalia without coach Lisa Drysdale.

And, from the jump, it appeared something was missing for last year’s runner-up.

The Magpies were fielding some new players, with sisters Tazarni and Eesha Clarke, joining in the team, along with Steph Sarro who missed season 2024.

Nathalia put on an absolute clinic against Moama in the first quarter, scoring 18 goals, while holding the Magpies to just three at quarter-time.

The Purples continued the strong run into the second quarter, but Moama managed to find some rhythm, holding Nathalia to 11 goals while doubling their score from the quarter before.

The third term was Moama’s best in attack as the goalers scored nine, but it was also a strong quarter for Nathalia, the side shooting 13.

The Magpies faltered in the fourth, scoring seven goalers, unable to produce the herculean effort needed to catch Nathalia.

The Purples remained as consistent as every down the stretch, tallying another 13-goal quarter to claim a dominant 30-goal victory at home.

The final score was Nathalia 55 to Moama 25.

The Magpies will have a lot of work to do ahead of round two as the side faces defending champion Rumbalara, a side hot off a resounding victory against Congupna.
