In an emphatic cricket display, Corowa dismissed Wodonga Raiders for just 57 and in just nine overs, scored the required runs without losing a wicket.

The Roos side is getting stronger. Coming out of retirement and making his debut was former NSW star Dan Smith who opened and comfortably smacked 34 not out.
Corowa hosted Wodonga Raiders in what was meant to be a good challenge and with the much-anticipated debut of Dan Smith.
Roos skipper Jarryd Hatton once again lost the toss, and Wodonga elected to bat on what looked like a good wicket.
Nick Grant and Jay Lavis took the new ball and looked sharp from the first ball, both attacking the stumps with Lavis proving too good, picking up 3 for 12 from 6 overs.
An outstanding runout from Joe Hansen saw Wodonga slump to 5/30.
Hatton then brought himself into the attack looking to rip through the tail end and did just that, claiming 3 for 6 from 5 overs.
Mitchell also bowling well at the other end claiming 2 wickets which included an outstanding stumping from Matt Wilson to wrap up the Wodonga innings who slumped to a dismal 57.
Patrick Lavis and Dan Smith opened the batting and were eager to finish the run chase quickly. Lavis was looking to get back into some form and looked very good.
Smith showed his long range hitting skills bombing a few balls into the trees at the caravan park with Corowa passing the required 57 in 9 overs; Lavis 20 not out and Smith 34 not out. It was a near perfect performance by Corowa.
B Grade
B Grade travelled to Wodonga on Saturday to play Raiders at Birralee Park
On what looked to be a good batting deck Captain Lavis lost the toss and was surprisingly sent into bat
Keenes and Lane opened up, with the boys batting superbly early to move the score to 50 before Lane was unluckily run out for a well-made 22
This brought Carr to the crease, after a slow start for Carr he quickly made up for it with some calculated shot placement!
With both batsmen set, Keenes also playing some fine shots they moved the score to 166 before Carr departed for a well-made 69
Raggett came and went for 10, Keenes still looking good and hitting the ball beautifully!
Athanitis then joined Keenes for his first hit for the season, a little rusty he still managed to hit a couple out of the middle and provide the perfect support for Keenes who was in sight of the magical 3 figures
The ton was not to be as the close of innings beat him, but ended up on 88 no, a magnificent effort to bat the whole innings, 45 over without giving a chance, Athanitis remained 17 not out
Setting Raiders 216 to win
Lane and Williams opened the bowling, keen for a good start and early wickets, Lane broke through with the score on 11.
With a steady flow of wickets and some good bowling, the Raiders were in trouble at 5-94.
A partnership of 46 got the Raiders back in the game with a couple of drops not helping the cause, the game was still in the balance with the Raiders 6-140.
Another mini partnership of 37 got them to 7-177 with the game still very much in the balance!
Another wicket with the score of 188 and it was game on!
Unfortunately, no more wickets were taken with all the boys having an absolute crack at not leaving anything out there
Some good tail-end batting and Roberts batted the Raiders home to remain 56 n/o with Williams bowling well taking 2-36.
C Grade
A First-time Kuschert five-for was the catalyst for a great escape for Corowa C-Grade (Division 1) against perennial powerhouse St Patricks.
St Patrick’s were cruising at 1/55 chasing 117 when the game was turned on its head by Kuschert.
And it wasn’t the more experienced duo Luke or his cousin Caleb, nor rising speedster Judd – but Luke’s younger brother Cody who delivered a spell that took Corowa to a healthy 3-1 record after four rounds.
After a few wayward balls, Cody the unheralded snaffled one, quickly backing up with two-in-a-row to be on a hattrick.
The hattrick ball was fended away but wickets four and five soon fell as Corowa busted through St Patrick’s middle order.
“It was an ugly start but I found form in the end,” Cody told the Free Press of his seven-over spell which included four wides and four no-balls.
“After the first over I was ready to walk off.
“It’s the first time a Kuschert had taken five, so that fell pretty good - I’ll hold that over my brother for a while.”
Brodie Eyers chipped in with two wickets with his off-spin while Stirling Letchford’s offies contributed another handy scalp as Corowa wrapped it up by 32 runs.
Jackson Hargreaves held onto a lobbed catch at cover in the tense finals over while Marty Douglas took one running back with the flight at short fine leg and Matt Shipard was safe at houses with a beauty at deep mid-wicket.
Earlier, Shipard held the Corowa innings together with his third half-century for the year.
The No.3 made 59 with the highlight a cracking pull shot which hit the Morris Park Pavilion roof on the full.
Wickets fell all around him but Judd Kuschert (18*) provided the crucial partnership coming in at No.11.
In bad news, a knee injury sustained by Jason Raggett last week has ruled the veteran out for the season.
Under 16s
On Friday night the under 16s boys travelled to Lavington. Batting first the boys got off to a slow start being 2/40 at drinks. As Brodie Eyers and Joe Lavis built a partnership, the scoreboard then ticked over. Brodie made 43 and Joe made 42. Jayden Forge and Benji Hanrahan finished off the innings. The boys finished at 4/122.
Eli Lavis got the boys off to a flyer with the ball. Eli took the first 3 wickets early. Jack Torney, Levi Phibbs and Archie Bedford joined in on the action all taking wickets. Benji Hanrahan took 3 wickets to clean up the tail as the boys bowled Lavi all out for 40.
Under 14- Div 1
This week we played Albury at home. We won the toss for the third week running and went in to bat. Our top order showed the goods with Eli Lavis and Will Massey putting on 32 before Eli was caught. Austin Ross-Anderson came in next continuing our success with bat retiring on 31. Blake Collins and Rhylee Barber also scoring well. The boys finished their innings 3-109.
The boys were strong in the field restricting Albury to 5-85. Eli Lavis backing up his big night in the 16s with a 1-7. Austin also getting 1-7.
Was a great game to watch. The boys are coming together well as a team with plenty of talk in the field.
Under 14s- Div 2
Keeping to form Corowa lost the toss with Yackandandah electing to bat. Abe opened and bowled a tight spell paired with Jake Witherden who got 1/1 off 2 overs.
Yack’s opening batsman was looking at retiring when Oliver McLellan sent a ball down that moved and popped up a catch to Archie at first slip.
Corowa’s bowling for the first 10 overs was tight with Yack 1/36 after 10. Nate Kuschert snagged his first wicket of the year and Yack closed out their innings at 4/97.
Dougy and Call got us off to a great start with Dougy retiring on 30 off 26 balls and Call hitting a great innings of 21 before being bowled.
At the break, Corowa were 1/73 with Josh Kremmer and Archie at the crease. Archie was run out on 23 by a direct hit but the call was good, and the run was there just unlucky it was a direct hit. Archie during his innings hit a big 6 over mid-wicket.
The innings were finished off by Jake Witherden and Josh Kremmer with the team compiling 3/129 after 20 overs for a strong win after going past Yack’s total in the 14th over.
Under 12s- Blue
Birthday boy and this week’s skipper Abe won the toss and sent the Albury side in knowing we were one man short with Nathias being crook all week.
The bowling was tight from the outset but there was some great stroke play from Albury’s opening partnership. Both retired and then the floodgates opened. Ollie Matthews snared the first pole after a great catch by captain Spencer. Leo Davis chipped in to get the second wicket and the run rate was slowing due to the accuracy of the bowling. Darcy, Abe, and Jacko Barber took wickets prior to the close of the innings and the total was restricted to 97. A total that in previous weeks would have been higher but the boys fielding and backing up that was first class.
The chase was anchored by Abe’s 28 not out. He and Jacko and Jagger (both 15) kept the score ticking over and kept the mum’s and dad’s nerves in check after a winless last season. The running between wickets, which is often not focused on, was unbelievable for a group of 11 and 12-year-old kids, and most likely won us the game. The undoubted highlight though was Marnus Moolman’s knock. He has been working extremely hard on both his batting and bowling and was rewarded this week with a 25-ball innings. Unfortunately, he was out on the ball he was due to retire, but the work he is putting in is being noticed by everyone within the team.
We passed the Albury score in the 18th over, leaving us three from three to start the season. Coach Doods has some ideas for training which will help the continued development and hopefully improvement in the group.
Thanks to all of the parents for putting their hands up to assist when needed. Phil Barber scored again (under some duress) and Dasher for umpiring. Special mention to Jill for grabbing some snags from Meat on the Murray and cooking a little barbie so we could all have something to eat while the parents got to know each other a little better.
Under 12s- White
The White boys made the short trip to Balldale to host St Pats green this week.
The toss went Corowa’s way and elected to bat. A batting collapse early spelled trouble at 3 for 3.
It was a bit of a battle for the rest of the innings to notch some runs up with Archie Rhodes 16, Fin Douglas 9 and George Smith 6 contributing some to keep Corowa in the game.
But the real standout of the innings was the last wicket dig between Ollie Bedford and the Gun ring in Bill Smith. The pair continued to hold the innings together and get it through until the 19th over. Ollie batted very patiently facing 38 balls for 5 not out.
Bill was super hanging in to make a few runs against some bigger opponents and get the team to a total of 54.
When hitting the field, the boys knew a big challenge was in front of them and they delivered.
Although wickets were hard to come by it was the really tidy bowling that had St Pats struggling at 1 for 19 at the halfway point.
The belief was there but unfortunately; it was short-lived as an opposition bat came out swinging and put the game away after the break.
The whole team bowled really well with George Smith and Cal Corcoran both only conceding 3 runs from their overs and Jaxon Collins and Archie Rhodes both collecting a wicket.
Corowa White is back to the high school next week to take on the neighbouring Howlong.
Under 12s- Div 2
The boys came up against some very tough opposition in Wodonga Raiders. Wodonga won the toss and decided to bat first making 166.
Benji Casey taking the sole wicket along with a run out. The boys were up against it and battled hard with the bat, Tommy Bonnitcha batted well making 16 and Kobe Raggett also batted well making 9 not out. The Under 12s take on Albury at Balldale next week.
