The young Bulldogs brought their game early and made the Roos work hard to connect in the first quarter. But the A Graders got sorted, were patient and began to build a lead from the second quarter onwards.
Player’s player went to Gonza (Tamir) who played with confidence, strength and speed all game. Her connection to Lou was astounding which assisted Lou, along with her confident shooting, strong takes and general aura on her 21st birthday earnt the coach’s award.
Lou Madden shooing and added 46 goals to her impressive season’s total.
Sophie Hanrahan fighting for possession.
HAF (Soph) took the third award out with her usual antics down in the defence end.
B Grade
Roos 45 defeated Bulldogs 41
B Grade’s Kiara Corkett shooting for goal.
B Grade had a tough and physical contest against the Wodonga Bulldogs. After being one down at quarter time, the Roos composed themselves and chipped away at their game plan to get ahead by four at half time.
The Bulldogs threw everything they had, finishing strong, but Corowa maintained their composure and held on to the lead extended in the second quarter. A real team effort got the win.
Kelsea Bullivant (Club 1) – who was instrumental in the midcourt, running the entire game in centre. Kelsea was poised in attack and relentless in defence, picking off several integral, momentum gaining intercepts at pivotal points across the game. Once again, maintaining her weapon status.
A brilliant grab by Lisa French.
Courtney Haigh (Essential Beauty & MVP) – who again showed consistency and stayed mentally and physically engaged in her role across the entire game. Her footwork and angles providing plenty of opportunities to punish any Wodonga errors and suffocate their attack line’s attempts to generate momentum.
Tori Sampson (Ladies Committee) – who came up against some early body on body pressure and overcame the intensity of her opponent, extending her prelims, and outsmarting the persistent pressure of the Bulldogs midcourt defence. Tori punched through the mess and found the snippet of open space to provide drive and momentum into the attacking end, delivering the ball to our shooters with finesse.
Sophie Arnold and Lisa French in goals, with Kelsie Bullivant passing in B Grade.
C Grade
Roos 39 defeated by Wodonga 52
The girls started well against Wodonga keeping within four goals by the end of the first quarter. Some great defensive work gave the attackers lots of opportunities.
The second quarter saw the Roos’ work rate lift and pull back the Bulldogs lead to just one goal.
Great defensive work over the whole court and goalies lifted with great feeding into the ring.
With injury in the defensive end in the Roos lost momentum.
To their credit they regathered and fought back to reduce the lead.
Last quarter Wodonga took control of the game, the Roos never dropped their heads though and adjusted to the different players.
Thanks to Bree, Lauren and Mia for helping out the girls this week.
Niamh Lavis (Club 1 & MVP) – worked well with Sophie in the ring and improved her goaling. Moving to defensive in last quarter she adjusted seamlessly.
C Grade never gave up despite some injuries.
Lily Kennedy (Thrive Wellness) – continued her solid defensive work turning the ball over and rebounding. She worked well with Bree and did a great job in GD as well.
Chelsea Parker (Ladies Committee) – was strong in WA giving good leads and hands over the ball. She jumped into WD and was able to anticipate the opponents’ moves shutting them down.
17 and Under
Roos 40 defeated by Wodonga 46
Under 17s put in a fantastic performance showing great teamwork, determination and some truly outstanding plays throughout the game. Despite their best efforts, the Wodonga Bulldogs proved too strong on the day, taking home the win. Plenty of positives can be taken from this game and come back even stronger for Round 7.
Alex Gniel (Origin Clothing), Sienna Sampson (The Hire Room) and Bree Forrest (Ladies Committee) were standouts, each delivering exceptional efforts across the court — from strong defence to clever attacking plays.
The whole team should be proud of the way they played and supported each other right to the final whistle.
15 and Under
Roos 26 defeated by Wodonga 75
Under 15s girls faced a tough opponent this week and went down by a large margin, but the final score didn’t reflect the effort and determination they showed on court. There were some great passages of play throughout the game and every player held their own right to the final whistle. Great effort girls, lots to be proud of and build on Round 7.
Clodagh Way (Docs) – was a consistent force across all four quarters. Her defensive pressure was outstanding and made a real impact.
Molly Colman (Sportspower) – implemented everything we’ve been focusing on at training. Her defensive efforts were strong, and she showed great improvement.
Maci Coats (Ladies Committee) – who brought plenty of drive through the court and also stood up well in defence.
The club wishes 15&Under coaches Darbs and Lou a happy birthday and congratulations to Sal and Lou on being selected for the O&M Interleague Team that takes on the GV this weekend. Next game is away against Wang Rovers on Saturday, May 31.
