The Roos A Grade girls put up a solid fight against a strong Wodonga Bulldogs outfit in what felt like 40 degree heat in front of a bumper Easter crowd.
With a few errors on our side leading to some quick goals to Bulldogs.
The girls banded together and dug deep in the last quarter, managing to claw back a 10-goal deficit to be within 2 goals.
A very promising sign for what’s to come for the new look A Grade side
Awards:
Club 1: Essential Beauty went to Mik Trethowan who was relentless in defence, turning over plenty of ball and providing plenty of options out of defence.
Club 2: Canteen was awarded to Lisa French, who stood tall all day against an experienced VNL championship defender. Pulling in some crucial balls in the last quarter.
B Grade
Roos 39 def Wodonga Bulldogs 30
The B Grade team lived out the team motto in front of a great Easter crowd to kick off the season with a stellar 9 goal win.
The girls were connected in love and relentless in play across the four quarters.
It was a hard-fought tussle with a competitive Wodonga outfit in hot conditions.
The girls adjusted to lots of transitions across the court and remained united amidst constant positional changes and rolling subs to combat the Easter sunshine.
A real team win this week, cementing that this is a team to keep an eye on this season. There’s a real mix of skill, passion and a sense of unity amongst this group.
Awards:
Club 1: Sophie Morey who consistently applied pressure to the Wodonga attack line, keeping them at bay.
Docs: Kelsea Bullivant in a true captain’s game, leading the tempo of the game, driving hard then finding composure to settle in attack.
Canteen: Courtney Haigh who took on the back line, turning over ball after ball to provide more and more opportunities for our attack to utilise.
C Grade
Roos 46 def Wodonga Bulldogs 40
C Grade had a strong performance against Wodonga Bulldogs, coming away with a six-goal win.
It was a great team effort, with consistent intensity and composure across all four quarters in tough, hot conditions.
Rahni Dickins led the way in Centre, providing outstanding support through the court, creating turnovers and maintaining an incredible work rate all game.
Sommers Hogan was dominant in defence, producing multiple crucial turnovers that shifted momentum our way.
Alex Gniel was outstanding in GA, shooting superbly under pressure and finishing strongly. A well-earned win with plenty to build on moving forward.
Under 17s
Roos 31 def by Wodonga Bulldogs 49
The Roos’ 17s netballers, had a tough Round 1 hit-out on the weekend, going down 31–49 to Wodonga Bulldogs.
While the scoreboard didn’t fall our way, there were still plenty of positives to take from the game, with effort and persistence shown right until the final whistle.
The Roos had some really strong passages of play, where our connections clicked and we moved the ball well.
Having a versatile squad is a real strength, allowing us to explore different combinations out on court.
Ultimately, Bulldogs were a very classy side with fantastic structures, speed and abilities.

Under 15s
Roos 16 defeated by Wodonga Bulldogs 64
Corowa Rutherglen’s new-look Under 15s side showed determination despite a tough loss to an experienced Wodonga Bulldogs team, going down 16 - 64.
Facing a well-drilled opponent, the girls worked hard across the court, with moments of strong and promising passages of play.
While the scoreboard didn’t reflect their effort, the match provided valuable learning opportunities.
Lucia McLellan took out the sports power award, shooting 5 goals in attack.

Isabel Bruce took the Chocolate Factory award with her incredible work rate in our midcourt, and finally Elera Keys took home the canteen award, providing speed in goal attack and shooting 5 goals.
