The club has suffered a significant player drainage in the senior football and netball groups, resulting in the senior football side looking increasingly unlikely to field teams in 2023.
In a statement today, Roos President Graham Hosier said they will assess football and netball for all playing groups.
"The club will continue to exhaust all avenues to play football and netball in 2023. Our priority always is, and always will be, to provide an environment for footballers and netballers to come and play the game they love at our great club,” Mr Hosier said.
On top of this the club endured an extended flooding event that has now deemed the clubrooms and facilities as untenable.
“With an extended timeframe required to assess the future plan and rebuild the rooms to endure future flooding events, we will be unable to use the existing infrastructure,” he said.
Roos Presdient Graham Hosier said club will continue to exhaust all avenues to play football and netball in 2023.
Mr Hosier said tough decisions would have to me made if things don’t come together quickly.
One scenario the club needs to assess is to use 2023 season to work hard on the ground with players and facilities, so we can Reset for 2024 season.
"We've sought advice from the Ovens & Murray and AFLNEB about what would happen in the event of us going into recess for a year," Mr Hosier said.
"We are opening the floor to our members and sponsors this Thursday to outline the situation and will continue to assess all avenues to our future."
The club intends to work through all situations and decide its future in the coming weeks.
“We are hurting, and the community are hurting as a result of this, so we are determined to continue the fight on for a Reset in 2024.”
SS&A OMFNL Chairman David Sinclair said in a statement today that they are yet to receive anything official from CRFNC despite reports they are intending to go into recess.
Coach George Sandral speaking to players last year in what was a terrific year for the Roos under 18s side.
The CRFNC have been keeping the league regularly updated on issues around current player numbers and the status of their facilities after the recent flooding event.
“It has come as a shock after a promising two years that the club finds itself in this perilous position and needing to consider this course of action,” Mr Sinclair said.
“We understand CRFNC will meet with its Members on Thursday night, and under its constitution, any decision will need to be served and voted on by its members before the club can go down this path.
“Until such time as the league is formerly advised of the clubs plans for 2023, the SS&A Ovens & Murray Football Netball League won’t be making any further comment to respect the club’s ability to carry out due process, other than to say that the league view the Corowa-Rutherglen region as a strong football and netball community that needs representation at the highest standard possible.”
Corowa Rutherglen has confirmed that the Corowa Rutherglen Junior Football Club will continue the season as normal as they are under the AWJFL.
The club will also push to have a under 15s and under 17s netball play this year as well as the thirds football at the very least. Further decisions on the senior sides will be made at the meeting on Thursday.
