“It’s exciting for the club and the town, to come back from where we were and are now,” club president Graeme Hosier told The Free Press.
“A lot of doubters existed about our future return. People said it couldn’t happen. But they’ve been proved wrong. We’ve worked hard to get us back.
“It’s been the whole board. They believed in themselves. The football department has been fantastic, as has been the case with our netball recruitment group.”
The flood-ravaged ground, clubrooms and surrounds, together with a player shortage forced the club to forego season 2023 in respect of its senor teams and into a reset situation for 2024.
A February 2, 2023 board recommendation that the club go into reset for 2024 was overwhelmingly accepted by members at a meeting on February 25, at the Corowa Civic Bowls Club.
But the Roos are back in all grades and will field competitive teams in the strong Ovens and Murray Football Netball League, starting this Saturday.
Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club is providing the opportunity for footballers and netballers to play in the strongest league in the region.
“In particular, it gives kids the opportunity to try out at the highest level around here and we have enjoyed some good recent years with our juniors,” Mr Hosier said.
“It will be exciting to see all of our new recruits in action, as well as welcoming back players who played for the Roos before last season.”
The last senior games of football and netball at John Foord Oval were in August 2022 against Myrtleford.
The Roos’ president encourages everyone to get down to John Foord Oval this Saturday to witness the history-making return to the most picturesque setting around the footy and netball fields of action.
“Let’s get behind our players. This Saturday is something not to be missed,” Mr Hosier concluded.
