A Grade

Corowa’s senior side have suffered another loss this time against Albury in a 30-over match at Billson Park.

Corowa won the toss and elected to bowl. Albury opened the batting well until Kaelan Bradtke broke through taking the first two wickets.

Albury were 2 for 38, but a solid partnership between Dominic Stockdale (55) and Jock Spencer (25) help steer the side to 91 before the loss of their third wicket. Two late wickets from Luke Backhouse saw Albury finish with 6 for 145.

Corowa started the batting with Mitchell Wagstaff and Pat Lavis. But both openers were quickly dismissed from excellent bowling from Brandon Diplock and Innocent Kaia.

Kaelan Bradtke and captain Jarred Lane steadied the side before Lane was dismissed, bowled by Ross Dixon for 15. Corowa was 4 for 50 but a steady flow of wickets then followed seeing Corowa at 7 for 66.

A late fightback from Jeremy Carr, who scored 32 runs from just 10 balls, saw Corowa finish 9 for 113 off the allotted 30 overs, 33 runs short of surpassing Albury’s score of 145.

B Grade

B Grade’s game on Sunday was called off due to the rain on Saturday night. They had the bye on Saturday.

C Grade

Corowa C-Grade (Division 1) got its season underway on Saturday, but it was a wobbly start.

The side was skittled for just 39 amid drizzly rain.

Despite the ball skidding through the crease, players were able to get bat on ball typically, playing one or two promising shots before disappointingly skying easy catches to the infield.

Liam McDonnel, Lachie Raggett and Dan Osborne put up the most fight, batting a little bit of time and scoring a handful of runs each.

A miracle was needed but even the experienced and wily new skipper Greg Burgess knew he was powerless defending this total.

Osborne, McDonnel and Jacob Fuge bowled well but the St Pat's Albury batters were willing to take risks and those risks largely paid off, reaching the total within eight overs for the loss of only one wicket.

New recruits Cody Kuschert and Ben Black were lively in the field with banter and energy, while McDonnel provided the fielding highlight with an over-the-shoulder catch running from slip towards fine leg.

Under 16s

The Under 16s had their first win for the season with a 39 run victory over Albury at Balldale.

Batting first, Corowa was in early trouble with Angus Williams and Jay Lavis going early to be 2 for 6. But a 77 run partnership between Ethan Lane (36) and Ollie Collins (30*) set Corowa up for a good total as they finished their 20 overs at 9 for 140. Brodie Eyers with 19 and Tyler Abley 13* lent good support.

In reply, Albury only lost 4 wickets in the chase but tight bowling by Jay Lavis 0/3 off overs and Brodie Eyers 2 for 5 off 2 overs restricted Albury to 101 off their 20 overs.

Under 14s

The Under 14s went down by 37 runs in their clash with Baranduda at Baranduda

Bowling first, Corowa got two early wickets but after that Baranduda got on top as they amassed 4 for 120 off their 20 overs. Joe Lavis bowled well with only 7 runs going off his 3 overs while Eli Lavis took 1 for 8 off 2 overs.

In the run chase on Levi Phibbs with 29 retired got going, while Franklin Murray -Wright made 13 not out at the end as Corowa finished their 20 overs at 8 for 83.

Under 12s

The wickets were shared around by the Blue bowlers with Jackson Barber, Harry Norman, Kasey Rhodes, Nate Jones, Jake Rhodes, Abe Spencer and Archie Rhodes all taking a wicket.

In the chase Blue were able to get off to a good start through Nate Jones (16) and Archie Rhodes (19*) and with good support from Abe Spencer (17) and Josh Kremmer (16).
