The Roos netball Under 17s team celebrated their first victory of the season in an exciting match against the Myrtleford Saints on Sunday at John Foord Oval.

Despite cold and challenging playing conditions, the young Roos showcased their determination securing a well-deserved win.
The senior game took place as part of the Ovens & Murray Indigenous round, with C Grade wearing Indigenous dresses, designed for last year’s Roos A Grade team, to honour the occasion.

In the C Grade game, the Roos faced tough competition from Myrtleford and, unfortunately, fell short.
The girls had a great first half but fell away in the third quarter which they were not able to regain.
The team were appreciative of Lily Hanrahan who played with the girls this week.
Awards:
Club 1 - Victoria Borg played an outstanding game in defence with Taleaka. Placing pressure on her opponents and reading the play well. She was able to maintain a focus on the game and continue to push through.
Essential Beauty - Taleaka Dickins also strong in defence she was able to work with Vic. Swapping players positions and great talk.
Thrive Wellness & MVP - Kiara Corkett showed strong leadership in the attack end.
Under 17s
Roos 42 defeated Myrtleford 25
The 17s girls were very focused this week to secure their first win. In round 3 against Myrtleford, they went down by only 3 goals, so a win was definitely in reach.
The first quarter got underway and proved to be even for the Roo girls. They came off for their quarter time break and were given some feedback in which they responded to.
A switch in the defence end seem to rattle the Myrtleford shooters.
The Roo girls third quarter saw them come out of the blocks with such determination to secure a win.
Audrey and Milly in defence were both solid turning the ball over and sending it down to the shooters Eloise and Tamir who were able to convert.
These girls were supported well by the midcourt players Remy, who was a very welcome return back from injury, & also Jo, Ava and Milly all played their part to secure a convincing win for the 17s. Thanks to Tamir, Ava and Audrey who played with the girls this week.
Awards:
Club 1 & MVP - Audrey Hogan was strong I defence and provided great drives down the court.
Choc Factory - Remy Longmire returning from injury feed the goalers well and provided quick drives and great talk to the other players.
Origin Clothing - Milly O’kane Showed her ability to read the play, intercept and rebound well. Milly & Audrey were a great defensive team.
Under 15s
Roo 18 defeated by Myrtleford Saints 24

The 15s started off well at the half time break they were only 3 goals down (7-10).
In the third quarter the girls lost a bit of steam. At three quarter time Noel changed the positions up and challenged the girls to have a crack and continue to play team netball which saw us out score the Saints in the last quarter.
Noel’s feedback to the girls after the contest was again how proud he was with each player’s fight, commitment but we can all hold their heads high after this performance
Awards:
Club 1 award- Rahni Dickins played one of her best games of the year this week. Her growth in her defensive pressure in the centre position was key in assisted the whole team keep momentum and allowed the defenders to get in the right position to attack every entry in the circle.
Sportspower- Lily Palmer again showed off her versatility and strength as a netballer this week with her ability to rebound the ball, tightly defend her opponents shot and then transition to our goal end in the last quarter shooting it through the ring at 80%.
Doc’s award: Bree Forrest game continues to evolve with her ability to tightly defend her opponent while still having the instinct to read the play and intercept the ball. Bree’s court vision and glove like defensive pressure really linked up well with all the other defenders.
SS&A award- Sophie Sleight clean defensive pressure was a huge boost for the team which can go unnoticed at times. Her repeated efforts and physical play wore her opponents down, really impacting their ability to score freely.
MVP- Millie Eales- Millie’s game continues to grow with her ability to better setup her teammates and herself to shot from the right range. With Millie improving week by week seeing her shoot 75% from the field this week. Millie really added an attacking spark for her team this week with her movement and skillset to feed the ball into the Roos shooting end being on display.
