For the first time since 2019 the regatta was held at the Lake Weeroona course.
Brad Pearsall started the days racing in the A grade single scull, in heat one Brad led all the way to take the win and move through to the final. Up against the sprint scullers from Essendon Brad settled as he moved through the field just falling short to finish in 2nd place.
The new C grade double scull combination of Imogen Tomlinson and Sienna McFarlane teamed to win the first heat and proceed through to the 4-crew final. The girls had a great row in the final to move out with the early leader to finish in 2nd place.
Sienna lined up in the U15 single scull final for the perpetual trophy won in the past by Corowa rowers Chloe and Sara Williams, Megan Vogel, Paige Cooper and Bella Heagney. Sienna took the early lead and in a strong display led all the way for the win to add her name on the trophy.
Julie Underwood raced down the course in the Masters single scull, with a tight battle with the Yarra sculler Julie finished in 2nd place.
One of the feature events was the A grade quad scull featuring Brad, Lachie Hogan, Simon McFarlane, Liam Fitzgerald Cox Harvey McFarlane. The fast pace at the start saw the Corowa crew miss a stroke proving costly as the crew dropped back before making a final challenge to the Essendon crew but ultimately falling just short but learning a valuable lesson for the future.
Adelaide Robb has been a standout over winter training, and she was ready to take on the Nagambie favourite in the heat of the B grade single scull. Adelaide showed great pace from the start taking the lead with her winter training strength allowing her to pull away for the win and move through to the final. Adelaide improved from her heat row to take the early lead and move clear for a great win.
The female U17 quad scull featured Anastasia McFarlane, Imogen, Sommers Hogan, Sienna Cox Will Hogan. In the 4-crew final the Corowa girls showed their class to move clear from the start to lead all the way for the win.
Julie teamed with Susie Scott in the Masters double scull. The double combination powered through the field to cross the line in first place.
The Open mixed quad event featured our younger rowers Liam, Lachie, Anastasia, Adelaide, Cox Harvey. The crew showed the field a great turn of speed from the start to move clear and claim the win.
The A grade double scull was a premier race for a perpetual trophy in honour of a Bendigo world war veteran, Brad teamed with Lachie against the fast Essendon combination.
As expected, the Essendon double took the early lead as the Corowa crew made their move. With the final sprint to the line the Corowa crew got their nose in front by the smallest of margins.
Simon lined up in his first single scull race, as the Footscray Sculler and Simon moved clear of the field Simon raced strongly to finish just short in 2nd place.
Imogen racing in the C grade Single scull was in the 1st heat featuring 4 scullers. Showing great confidence Imogen raced strongly to take the lead from the start and progress through to the final. The final was a great battle as Imogen followed the race plan to take the early lead as the challenge came from the Geelong sculler. As both scullers raced to the finish Imogen fell just short in a great race.
The mixed masters double scull featured Julie and Simon with the handicap system the Corowa crew couldn’t reel in the early leaders to finish in 2nd place.
The final race for the day featured Lachie and Anastasia in the Open Mixed double scull. The young combination proved too fast against their older opposition to claim another win for the club.
The rowers had a fantastic regatta coming away with 7 wins and 6 second placings as we prepare for the longer distance regattas.
The club’s Open day was a huge success as they welcome the community to try a low impact strength building sport.
