While the AFL finals are yet to get under way, the off-season is in full swing for clubs missing September action in 2025, as the dreaded exit interviews reveal the futures of each club’s fringe members.
Following a strong finish to the season and re-signing of star midfielder Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, St Kilda is on the front foot in shaping its list for 2026 as it looks to contend with the competition’s best once again, however, it has come at the cost of the tall Bears export.
Boyd was signed by the Saints through this year’s pre-season Supplemental Selection Period, brought into the club as a back up ruck option for gun giant Rowan Marshall.
The 2024 SANFL Magarey medallist would make his debut in round one, recording 27 hit-outs, 12 disposals and four clearances in the Saints’ 63-point loss to eventual minor premier Adelaide, but failed to make another appearance at the top flight after that, playing 12 games for St Kilda’s VFL affiliate Sandringham.
At state league level, the 2018 premiership Bear averaged a tick less than 28 hit-outs and 13 disposals a game as the Zebras narrowly avoided the wooden spoon, finishing the season in 20th.
On Tuesday, St Kilda announced that the ruckman, as well as three-gamer Angus McLennan, had been hit out of the playing list.
St Kilda footy boss David Misson acknowledged the delisted duo for its service to the Moorabbin club.
“We thank Angus and Harry for everything they have given to this club in their time as St Kilda players,” Misson said.
“Harry joined us just before the start of this season and made an immediate impact.
“He is an incredibly warm and positive person who never hesitated to help those around him, even housing several of our first-year players just days after moving from South Australia.
“We wish both Angus and Harry, along with their families, all the best for the next chapters of their lives.
“They will always be welcome at St Kilda.”
Former premiership Bulldog Zaine Cordy has also been delisted from the Saints, while defender Jimmy Webster announced his retirement from the game earlier this month.
