As the summer season approaches its last six weeks, competition time is in full swing with a handful of swimmers are demonstrating just how much regular training and club night attendance combined with the continued professional development of coaches contributes to improvement in the sport of swimming.

The last Ovens and Murray District Pennant for the season was held at Yarrawonga Pool Sunday week ago, hosted by Yarrawonga/Mulwala Swim Club. Due to a mix-up with the closing date for entries, only two Corowa swimmers managed to get their entries in: Imogen Pilcher and Rosie Hicks.
Imogen is new to the Corowa Sharks club this season (the third Imogen!) and is going ahead in leaps and bounds as a regular squad member managing to improve her times in both her events (50m backstroke and 50m freestyle) since her competition debut at Corowa only the week before.
Both girls managed to achieve top 5 placings, as Rosie’s sister Belle - injured and unable to swim -supported them from the sidelines.
Saturday and Sunday last saw the Ovens and Murray individual championship events held at Wangaratta.

Four Corowa swimmers attended the Sunday session and three achieved PB’s in all but one event.
Congratulations to Mona Liu, Matilda Park, Abbey Park who consistently achieve improved results and to newly qualified coach Imogen Letchford for continuing to compete as well as coach the team, setting a good example for her squad members.
PB of the day goes to Mona for her 4.62 second improvement in the 100 breaststroke.
Persistent and regular training really pays off and coaches Robyn, Rhonda, Kristen, Imogen L and Sharon are all gratified to observe this in competition at both Club Nights and inter-club events.
Swimmers who attend training two or more times a week continue to consistently outperform those who train only occasionally.
That said, swim club is a great place to simply maintain good health and swimming skills and the club welcome members who either wish to compete or just want to get some exercise, improve their technique or simply maintain potentially life-saving skills.
Most of the members are with the club for a combination of these reasons. Remember: swimming is the only sport that may one day save your life!
There are two remaining club nights before the Club Championships commence on March 1 and conclude on March 8. There is also the Ovens and Murray relay championship event coming up on March 3 with the club presently getting teams together.
