Former Corowa Rutherglen United Hockey Club player Dylan Martin donned the green and gold Tokyo last week with the Australian Kookaburras hockey team.

Dylan debuted for the Kookaburras in May 2021 against New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman series. Less than a month later he was named in the Kookaburras team to represent Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
As a junior Dylan travelled from Wagga to Corowa for three years to play for United each weekend.
United club president Matt Davis said Dylan joined the club in 2013. He won a premiership while playing in the second division and two premierships in first division.
Davis said the club couldn’t be prouder of Dylan and were cheering him on over the last few weeks.
“He’s a kid with a lot of skill and talent. Corowa was a great steppingstone for him,” he said.
“A few of our current players played with Dylan and very excited for him.
“His work ethic and commitment to make it all the way to Olympic level is very exciting.
“We are definitely proud of him.”
Last Thursday, the Kookaburras went head-to-head with Belgium in the men’s hockey gold medal final.
Dylan came away with came away with a silver medal after the Kookaburras lost to Belgium in dramatic shootout.
The Kookaburras last won gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics, with Corowa local Stephen Mowlam OAM part of the winning team.
