The 2026-27 season is scheduled to get underway on October 10, and the Eagles’ mission to drive back up the rankings from eighth has received a timely boost with the announcement firebrand paceman Tiron Fernando has joined the club.
The crafty Fernando is crossing over from Old Students after a one-season stint at Kialla Reserve, having previously lent his fast bowling nous to Pine Lodge.
Fernando has claimed 83 wickets in his three Cricket Shepparton seasons, and last year’s campaign for Old Students yielded 20 wickets at a miserly average of 18 for the reliable Sri Lankan seamer.
But it’s not just in the pace stocks that the Eagles have improved their hand.
Bailey Simpson will make his Katandra homecoming after a season with Karramomus, rejoining the Eagles after spinning his way to 26 wickets to help the Bloods to last year’s preliminary final.
Meanwhile, Katandra has turned to a club great to helm the upcoming campaign.
Jedd Wright will sit in the hot seat in place of Ryleigh Shannon, and the 2022-23 Lightfoot Medallist will be joined by fellow Eagles’ premiership player Andrew Riordan as his assistant.
