Deniliquin was an unfortunate victim of last week’s weather, with this week’s results the final nail in the coffin as it sought to hunt down Stanhope in fourth.

Deni was set to battle bottom-of-the-table Rochester in the cancelled round, while Stanhope had a tough game against second-placed Echuca in store, but with the heat rule in effect, all sides had to settle for eight competition points.
Despite scoring victory over Mathoura on Tuesday, Deni’s faint finals hopes were dashed when Stanhope claimed all three rinks over Rich River to win 16-87 to 0-41.

It was a convincing team effort from Stanhope as all three rinks prevailed by significant margins.
Jennifer Crilly’s squad, including Geoff Crilly, Kenneth Hoppner and Bruce Pearson, wiped out the opposing quartet by 35 shots to 8, giving what may turn out to be a crucial boost to their side’s shot differential.

Across the greens, a Neville Cowie-led Stanhope outfit came out on top over Barry Brown’s Rich River team, while Peter Myers won 21-14 over Elizabeth Easther.
Deniliquin’s win at Mathoura, 12-58 to 4-50, wasn’t enough to keep it in contention.

Going in as the underdog, Mathoura played well to claim two of the three rinks contested.
Peter Pangrazio’s quartet won 22-17 over Tony Tonta’s squad, while Raymond Sangster survived a tense back and forth with Paul Clear to come out on top 16-15.

Stephen O’Brien proved the hero for Deniliquin, his 26-12 victory swinging the scoreline is his side’s favour.
Echuca was given a run for its money by Rochester, but resigned Rochy to the bottom of the ladder with a 12-59 to 4-49 win.

Kerryn Evans’ rink secured the points for Echuca, her 30-8 victory enough to offset losses in the other two rinks.
Rochester was in fine form elsewhere, Tim Quinlan leading his squad to a 23-15 win over Roma Opie, while Anton Gusak headed up an 18-14 scoreline over Ian Page.
In the final match of the round, Moama made a statement over another finals-bound side, Kyabram, earning a 32-shot win, 16-74 to 0-42.
Matt Robertson’s side was the major offender at Kyabram Bowls Club, his squad running up a 33-10 scoreline.
The other two rinks were more closely fought, with Cameron Keenan winning 24-17 over Noel Reddrop and Cassandra Millerick sneaking by Joe Greco 17-15.
Moama will battle Echuca in the qualifying semi-final, both sides secure in the top two places, regardless of next week’s results.
Kyabram and Stanhope could switch places, but will fill out the top four, meaning an elimination semi-final between them looms.
That prospect is made more intriguing by next week’s draw, where the sides will preview the encounter in the final regular season round.
Lower divisions
In division two, Deniliquin RSL defeated Echuca 14-57 to 2-46, while Kyabram survived a close encounter with Moama 14-57 to 2-56.
Rich River had a big win over Rochester 16-73 to 0-38.
In division three, Rich River scored a win over Ky Valley View, 12-44 to 2-31, Echuca defeated Kyabram 12-37 to 2-34 and Tongala ran up the score over Elmore 14-61 to 0-26.
Moama won over Lockington, 14-47 to 0-28 and Deniliquin beat Rochester 14-45 to 0-28.
In division four, Echuca edged out Tongala 12-37 to 2-35 and Stanhope got the best of Rich River 14-49 to 0-24.
Moama Black took down Kyabram, 12-45 to 2-41, while Lockington and Moama Green shared the spoils, 7-40 each.
