Losing the toss Corowa was asked to bowl first. Arthur Godsal and Jay Lavis shared the new ball and after a tidy start Arthur got the first breakthrough having Powell caught behind with the score on 12.
Nick Grant picked up the second wicket of Scammell caught in the gully by Grantham and when last week’s hero Patty Lavis trapped Kaushal in front, Corowa had Raiders 3 for 33.
A 40 run partnership between Raiders captain Burge and Barrenchea settled the contest before Luke Backhouse broke through removing Burge, shortly after Barranchea was run out by Lane then Backhouse picked up his second wicket to put Corowa back on top at 6 for 87 before another fight back from Raiders took them to 129 before Matt Grantham was able to produce a second run out for the innings.
With Raiders attacking the last few overs, they moved the score to 8 for 183 from 50 overs, a par batting score on a flat wicket and fast outfield with all of Corowa's bowlers and fielders putting in great effort in very hot conditions.
Openers Mitch Wagstaff and Arthur Godsal got off to a positive start moving the score to 34 in seven overs before Mitch was trapped LBW for 11. A mixup between Grantham and Godsal saw Arthur run out soon after and when Grantham was given out LBW Corowa had slipped to 3 for 37. This became 4 for 41 when Kade Wilson was bowled, Nathan Rhodes was on the wrong side of a dodgey decision first ball and had to go with Jay Lavis able to keep out the hatrick ball however when he was out caught and bowled a few overs later Corowa had lost 6 for 12 to be 6 for 46.
Matt Wilson took the bit between the teeth and came out to bat with immediate intent playing strongly down the ground and through the off side to wrestle back some momentum with Wilson dominating a 50 run partnership with captain Jarred Lane, scoring 35 from 37 balls before he was out with the score 105.
Patrick Lavis then joined Lane and he too was able to score freely with his straight driving and strike rotation a key feature. The pair was able to move the score to 150 before Lane played over the top of one to be stumped for a patient 40. Not deterred, Patty continued to attack however a mistimed drive saw him caught at cover for 35. This left only Luke Backhouse and Nick Grant to bat with the pair looking solid but unable to pull off a miracle with Backhouse caught behind to end Corowa's innings on 162.
It was a disappointing loss with a top order collapse costing the team victory however some positive performances from Patty Lavis and Matt Wilson with the bat and a very strong bowling and fielding effort positives to be taken out. Thanks to all those who attended Tuesday night’s T20 although the result didn't go the Roos way the players certainly recognise the support from the community.
B Grade
B Grade went down to the top of the ladder Wodonga Raiders by 4 wickets in their clash at Ball Park Oval.
Losing the toss Corowa was asked to bat first with Bailey Minogue batting well making 38 and with Ethan Lane (13) and Joe Hansen (22) looking good Corowa was in a strong position at 3 for 106. But Corowa continued to lose wickets with only Doug Lavis (21) and Joe Lavis (12) making it into double figures as Corowa was bowled out for 163 with 5 overs to go.
In reply Ethan Lane and Jacob Fuge got an early wicket each but a couple of missed chances provided critical as Raiders reached the score in the 40th over. Joe Hansen bowled well to take 2 for 25 off 8 overs, while Lane finished with 2 for 33.
C Grade
A brilliant ninth-wicket partnership from Cody Kuschert and Blayre Smith got Corowa out of trouble and ensconced their position in second-place on the C-Grade (Division 1) ladder.
Kuschert and Smith came together with the side a precarious 8/88 against the lowly-placed St Patrick's White, but rescued the innings with some bold hitting.
Kuschert took on the bowling from the get-go, smacking six boundaries including one six, mainly in an arc from mid-off to mid-wicket on his way to 42.
It inspired Smith (24*) who produced two fours in a row at one stage, the second a blazing drive through long-off out of the middle of his new GM that would have gone for four on two grounds.
The partnership helped guide Corowa to 167 from its 40 overs.
With a decent total to bowl at, Greg Burgess was upbeat going into the defence and the skipper went about working over the top-order batsmen with his pinpoint left-armers.
Two half-chances went down but Kuschert took the third with the gloves and Matt Shipard made no mistake with the fourth at square leg as Burgess produced a vintage 4/14 from eight overs.
Caleb Kuschert (2/3) came in off the long-run and was on the money from his first over, claiming a neat caught and bowled, and then rattling the stumps with a yorker.
When Taj Smith hung onto a skied catch from the spin of Blayre Smith there was only one wicket to go and youngster Judd Kuschert was thrown the ball, claiming the 10th scalp with his third ball via a wicket-keeper catch to give Corowa a 60-run victory.
