A grade suffered a tough loss today against Wodonga Raiders in wet conditions, going down by four goals, 33 to 37.
Raiders brought their physical game from the start which saw us adapt our play to the weather and utilise our give and go across the court.
Across all four quarters it was a close game, one to two goals in each quarter saw us resetting each quarter, however we did drop our intensity in the end of the fourth quarter which resulted in the loss.
Awards today went to; Club 1- Brooke Cannon: a fantastic game in centre, feeding well and providing great defence across the court. 2- Indianna Frauenfelder: really proud of how Indi carried herself and gave such a strong four quarters in goal attack. MVP: Sally Hunter.
B Grade
Corowa 24 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 34
The girls took the first five minutes to settle into the game but found their connection and chipped away, leaving us three down at halftime. Our defensive end did a power of work, creating plenty of turnovers, but a wet day meant slippery rings and a heavy ball, making it hard work for our shooters.
It was a physical game, and the girls did great to maintain their composure and rise above it. A lull at the end of the third quarter saw Raiders’ surge away with the game.
Awards: Club 1: Macey Drayton had a fire in her belly Saturday, with determination to rip in as many balls in the air as she could with confidence and did so cleanly. Canteen: Courtney Haigh worked so well with Macey utilising her long arms and quick feet to get hands to lots of overhead balls and rebounds. MVP: Brooke Bice worked hard in the mid court to break clear of her opponent, playing an equally strong attacking and defensive role.
C Grade
Corowa 22 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 43
C Grade had a physical game against Raiders. Unfortunately, in the wet, Raiders adapted their game to the conditions quicker and were more consistent across the 60 minutes.
We showed we had the ability and skill set to match them but couldn’t pull it together for four lots of 15 consistent minutes. Awards: Club 1: Charlotte Bott Thrive: Jemma Smith Canteen: Victoria Borg.
Under 17s
Corowa 34 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 42
The Under 17s had a few less players than usual and knew it will be a tough game against Myrtleford, but they went out working hard as a team and adapted to all the changes and different plays.
Half time the girls started to put themselves down but the second half they went out and showed that they can have fun when playing netball which is all that matters. Club 1- Rhianna Corowa Distillery- Katy Canteen- Nellie.
The Under 17s had a tough start against the Raiders, but they found their groove and started playing their game. Their own errors led to the Raiders getting in front by 9 goals. The last quarter, the girls came out firing, coming within 4-5 goals, which was an amazing effort for the girls considering the last time we played Raiders, we were about 20 goals down against one of the top teams.
Awards: Club One/MVP - Audrey Hogan Choc Factory - Alex Gniel Canteen - Kait Good.
Under 15s
Corowa 17 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 88
Our 15s worked tirelessly to combat the polished ladder leader Raiders outfit at John Foord. We proudly minimised the margin from the first time we met them.
Although the Raiders’ girls finished off many goals, our defensive pressure saw them work hard to earn a lot of them, sending several balls wayward over the baseline and ripping in many defensive rebounds across the game.
Our girls found some rhythm when they let go of the ball early and trusted each other to put what we’ve been training into play.
Our transition out of defence has seen some great improvement lately, and the girls knew they had to execute moves from the front position to keep the Raiders defenders at bay.
When we worked the front space to the ball, we found our controlled and connected team game.
We are looking forward to a big finish next week after a season that every one of these girls has shown so much improvement!
Awards: Club 1: Maci Coats Sportspower & MVP: Maddison Ryan Canteen: Charlotte Seal.
