A-grade had a big task ahead with last year’s runners-up on Saturday.
The A-grade gals showed grit, determination and some sweet skills out on court but unfortunately couldn’t convert that to a win on the weekend.
A strong first quarter set us up well, but the Raiders continued to peg back the score line in the second and third quarters.
A great grab by Roo coach Sophie Hanrahan
An even last quarter was a testament to our team not giving up even when there was a chance for the scoreline to blow out.
Players player went to Indi Frauenfelder who shot goals all day and was zippy against a brutal opponent.
The coach’s award went to Sally Hunter for a strong game down in the defence end. Essential Beauty went to Sophie Hanrahan.
A Grade action with Zoe Prentice, Amity and Sally Hunter.
B GRADE
Corowa 38 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 48
B Grade’s Jade Lane looks to pass to a teammate.
A competitive game in the B-grade today. The intensity was high across the whole 60 minutes, with some minor errors costing us in the end.
We displayed some polished passages of play and rotated plenty of fresh legs, transitioning smoothly.
We took advantage of their errors and Eloise black finished off the conversions with unwavering consistency.
Awards this week: Club 1 and MVP: Eloise Black, Origin: Remy Longmire, canteen: Jade Lane
C GRADE
Corowa 35 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 51
A terrific leap by Roo C Grader Steph Sutcliffe.
C-grade today showed they can hold it with the top 5 when playing our best netball. Unfortunately, inconsistency in our play within our quarters had a big impact on the scoreboard, allowing the Raiders to get a run on. Steph Sutcliffe (Club 1) was our strength in the attack end with quick ability to adapt to the rolling changes she had, and intelligent play-making set ups and clear communication.
C Grade Victoria Borg making it difficult for an opponent.
Chelsea Parker (Thrive) played out of her preferred position and swung into goals when we had an ankle injury happen to Talia our GA. Chelsea worked the front space with Steph well and adjusted smoothly into this role. Jemma Smith (Canteen) was strong to the ball and worked on following through on leads to create space and get depth in the attack.
Under 17s
Corowa 32 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 57
Action from the Under 17s with Tahlia Dale outstretched and Audrey Hogan in the background.
Our 17s came out strong against Wangaratta. They had a good third quarter, with movement out of defence and intensity in the attack end. We were let down by a few of our own mistakes, but the girls continued to fight. Rhianna Quinton (club 1) came out in the attack with intensity, which lifted the whole team. She continues to improve each week.
Sommers Hogan (chocolate factory and MVP) throws herself at every option she can which not only lets her get hands on the ball but also her teammates.
Savannah Lewis (canteen) worked well in WD keeping her attacker off the ring. Her talk across the court helped lift the girls.
The 17s have some work to do, but they continue to improve and keep strong each week.
Under 15s
Corowa 17 defeated by Wodonga Raiders 89
15s today showed up against a polished top of the ladder Raiders side. Our first quarter was our best scoring 10 and remaining very competitive.
Our heads were high throughout the 60 minutes, and we worked solidly to find front space to combat the height and length of the Raiders’ girls. Our hands-over pressure was constant, and we made the table leaders work hard to get the ball all day.
