The young Cats went into the match with confidence after a win in their first final last week.
The first quarter was a tight affair, with scoring hard to come by and both teams determined to bank the win. At the end of the term each team had only scored a point, with neither able to break the shackles.
Jayke O’Malley and Liam Colvin were solid in defence and managed to repel many attacks forward by Yack.
The second quarter was also tight, and despite the efforts of Dustin Fisher and Jaylen Cracknell in the centre, it was hard to penetrate the Yackandandah defence.
Yackandandah managed to score a goal right on half time which put them into the long break with some momentum.
The “premiership quarter” belonged to Yack as they converted three more goal opportunities, despite the best efforts of Jax Ramsey in the Ruck and Arthur Morris and Callum Potter around the ball.
Dustin Fisher did convert a long goal, to give Rutherglen some hope going into the last.
In the fourth quarter the goals once again dried up, and Yackandandah held on for a 21-point win.
Well done to Seth Goodman and Erik Fuge who put their bodies on the line for the team.
Rutherglen will look to bounce back strongly next week and come out firing.
We would like to congratulate our Captain Dusty Fisher who earlier in the week was awarded the TDFL Best and Fairest for the Under 14s. Congratulations Dusty!
We are very proud of your talent, commitment and passion for football. Next week Rutherglen will face the Wodonga Saints in the preliminary final.
A grand final berth awaits the winner against Yackandandah.
Best of luck to our young Cats next weekend. We believe in you!
Final score: Yackandandah 4.7.31 def Rutherglen 1.4.10
Best: Jayke O’Malley, Jax Ramsey, Liam Colvin, Jaylen Cracknell, Nash Eloy and Dustin Fisher.
