“Never have we had four weeks in a row starting off a season like this,” CAW Chairman Michael Erdeljac told The Free Press.
“There have been one or two weeks but not four consecutive weeks.”
Given the regular, heavy rain, cricket ovals and centre wickets have been waterlogged, leaving the CAW with no option but to cancel rounds of cricket.
“Albury Wodonga have taken a lot more rain than other areas and we wait to hear from other clubs before we make announcements,” Mr Erdeljac said.
“But you really need four days of good weather to prepare wickets.”
Corowa cricketers are ready when the green light is given, training as much as possible.
Roos’ captain Jarred Lane said today’s situation is a far cry from the first week in October, with cricket being a bit of a rush ‘start’ after the Roos played in the football grand-final.
“We need to get started, especially with ‘Mitch’ (prized recruit from England) champing at the bit and Arthur (Godsal, English recruit back again) itching to play,” the captain said.
“We’re sick of just training, we’re ready for action whenever that may be,” Lane said.
If the go-ahead is given for this weekend’s cricket, Corowa will host East Albury at Ball Park in the one-dayer commencing at 11.30am.
