CR United outshone all competitors at the ceremony, taking home the 2023 Flo Joynson Club of the Year, two best and fairest division 1 awards, a best and fairest div 2 award and the MAC (Motivater, Achiever, Contributor) award. Eight players were also selected in the Hockey Albury Wodonga Division 1 teams of the year, further attesting to United’s commitment to developing and nurturing top-tier hockey talent.
Club President Chris Cull expressed his immense pride in CR United’s achievements.
“This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, and everyone involved with the club,” he said.
United’s Tim Jones, Alex Macqueen, Dave Foster, Tim Smith, Sam McIntosh, Matt Vogel, Rosie Blain, Seana Blain, Bella Heagney and Abby Bainbridge were selected in the Hockey Albury Wodonga Divison 1 Teams of the Year.
“All 12 of our teams made finals, and nine of those are into the grand finals this week. This means 75 per cent of our players are playing this weekend. That’s a record for our club which is pretty amazing.
“We had four teams finish on top, four teams finish second, and another four finish third or fourth. So no one finished below that.”
Chris said having nine teams in the grand final was unique for any sporting club in the area.
“In the last 10 years, our club has been awarded Hockey Albury Wodonga’s most successful club of the year, only missing out on one year in 2020, which was during COVID,” he said.

“As a president you couldn’t be any prouder of that. In fact, I can’t think of a more successful sports club in our area.
“Much of that is attributed to being a family club. We have both parents and their children involved and playing within the club which is pretty unique. An example is that we’ve got four dads playing with their sons, that’s pretty magic.
“There’s also longevity with players sticking around for the long haul from juniors right through to seniors.”

Chris thanked the community for their continued support with businesses stepping up to decorate their front windows with CR United themed streamers and balloons.
“We love to see the support and we are very grateful,” Chris said.
“We just hope to see more of it for this weekend and for our club moving forward. Hockey doesn’t quite get the attention that football does. But there is a terrific level of talent and excitement at our club.
“We encourage everyone to come and support our sides this Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.”
