United started strong, creating a number of scoring opportunities but were denied by the Falcons keeper and defence.
Henry Macqueen finished off a nice team move to take the lead late in the first quarter.
United had all the play in the 2nd quarter with Sam Macintosh controlling the midfield, creating opportunities for the strikers.
Tim Smith and David Foster had a few near misses before a Tim Jones goal gave United a 2-0 lead at half time.
Coach Foster was happy with the effort in the first half and wanted the lads to focus on possession and not get frustrated about the scoreboard. He put out a challenge to the defence to keep up the good work and keep a clean sheet.
The build up from the back was outstanding in the second half with Campbell Cull and Liam Hill leading the way. A cracking backstock Tomahawk from Will Seymour gave United a 3-0 lead going into the last quarter and Tim Smith iced the cake just before full time to give United their 7th win of the season to consolidate their spot, on top of the HAW Division 1 Men's ladder. Liam Hill had his best game of the season and was awarded the Corowa Golf Club award and Tim Jones was strong as always up-front winning the Star Hotel Rutherglen award.
CR United’s best were Tim Jones up front and Liam Hill down back while MicMac and Patto were the key contributors for Falcons holding the scoreline down.
The Div 1 men now extend their lead on the ladder to 2 wins clear of second place.
Women record fifth victory
United Division 1 Women won their fifth match of the season in an impressive 2-0 victory over last year’s premiers Falcons.
Coach Tim Smith has his team playing well and are leading the HAW Division 1 competition.
Rosie Blain and Sara Lumby were the goal scorers with Tanya McGrath having a great game at the back to win the Corowa Golf Club award.
The girls have a battle on their hands next Sunday in the top of the table clash against North Wombats at 1pm while the men tackle last year’s grand finalists Wodonga at 4pm, with both games at Albury Hockey Centre.
