Corowa (8.4.52) defeated Raiders (6.10.46)
After a disappointing effort last week against North Albury the under 14s boys had a tough week on the track with the tackle pads out.
The boys fronted up to test themselves against a Raiders outfit with an unbeaten record.
They got off to a good start with the ball contested well before good uncontested footy out of the backline by the boys led to the first goal of the day by Franklin.
Cooper Patten bobbed up for a goal as the Roos backline toiled effortlessly to keep Raiders goalless for the quarter with Joe Lavis sending a long bomb towards the goals which sailed through.
The 2nd quarter was pretty even with two goals apiece. Lachie Ireland was going to work in the middle and putting the finishing touches on a blistering first half. Both the Roos goals for the quarter were scored by Cohen Wilcox who was moved forward.
Half time score Raiders 16 and Roos 32.
The Raiders came out from the main break firing and the ball spent a long time in their forward half as they peppered their goal line and ending in a goal to the Raiders. The Roos boys in the middle were contesting well with Lachie Douglas on the wing laying tackle after tackle on bigger boys. Lachie Ireland was again contesting well in the middle and was having trouble grabbing a loose ball so he kept kicking off the ground getting it into the Corowa forward line resulting in a goal to Lachie.
The Roos held a 19 point advantage leading into the last break.
The Raiders looked to want the ball more in the last quarter kicking an early goal to close the gap to 13 points. It was a scrappy quarter with the ball heavily contested however it was going the way of the Raiders when they scored another goal to cut the lead to 6 points. Another goal to the Raiders had it all tied up with about 3 minutes to go.
It was really cooking in the middle with a hot pill bouncing between the arcs until the Roos took a defensive mark and could setup some kick link play to get it into their forward line. Oscar Rowe was deep in the forward line. The boys spotted him and he took a strong contested mark on about a 45 degree angle. He calmly went back and slotted the sealer.
Roos went onto win 52 – 46 in a great game.
Goals: 2 J Lavis, C Wilcox, 1 F Murray-Wright, L Ireland, C Patten, O Rowe
Bests for Corowa: L Ireland (Painters Cafe), E Northey (Peter Ellis), A Ross-Anderson (TH Kitchens & Joinery), E Lavis (Little Oasis Beauty), W Forrest (A&A Automotive), C Patten (Joel Bilney Builders) & R Barber (Ricky D’s Pizza)

Corowa (6.8.44) defeated Wodonga White (2.0.12).
The youngest set of Roos took to Birallee Park on Sunday, looking to take down Wodonga White.
Hooter had the boys up and about at training in the week, hitting bags and learning to use their bodies in the contest, and it was all on display in the first quarter.
Some strong play in the defensive end from Finny Douglas set the tone as the ball moved forward through Jagger Doody and Leo Davis.
Abe Spencer was throwing himself around in the contest and Aiden Ratcliffe and Eli Hales were wreaking havoc in the forward-50.
However, despite intense pressure, goals were proving a little challenging to come by. Josh Parker broke through for the opening goal of the term before it was followed by Darcy Upton, giving the boys a 14-point start on Wodonga at the break.
The second quarter offered much of the same.
Cooper Gerhard looked dangerous around the ball and Jai Richey started to throw his weight around.
Jake Witherden's pace on the ball started to show through and, as a result, the boys were able to add 5 behinds and another goal, this time to Jagger Doody.
It had been a huge push from the boys in the first half and the interchange from the bench started to pay off as the boys were able to keep pushing forward.
Jaxx Johnstone was a strong presence in the midfield and Rydah Brown was making his presence felt. Franco Moolman was in everything, scrapping for the ball and moving it on efficiently, creating opportunities for the boys at the front.
Goals to Lucas Tait and Ollie Matthews helped move the score along leading into the final term.
Again, the boys looked strong on the ball. Ollie Matthews moved into the ruck and picked up where Darcy had left off, creating space for the on-ballers. The boys were again able to move the ball into their forward line and hold it there creating a number of opportunities, with Aiden Ratcliffe sniffling a sharp chance in front of goal to seal the game.
Awards: Jake Witherden, Ollie Matthews, Josh Parker, Jagger Doody, Finley Douglas, Darcy Upton
