Back to the Future star James Tolkan dies aged 94
James Tolkan, known for Back to the Future and Top Gun, has died aged 94 after a remarkable acting career spanning decades.

Died in Brisbane on 26 May 2026.
Beloved daughter of Myra (née Tait) and Allan Jacobs. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Ian Jacobs and Lynne (both deceased), and Robyn Jacobs and Neil. Devoted aunt of James North and Lix, and Zoë Jacobs Fohrman and Ryan. Loving great-aunt of Anders and Sterling.
Dalma lived a remarkable life of intellect, service, generosity, quiet determination and strong convictions. A graduate of UQ in Economics and Statistical Mathematics, she devoted 42 years to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, retiring as ACT Regional Director and Statistician.
Throughout her life she championed equal pay, maternity leave, women’s education and opportunity. She continued this work through leadership, mentoring, volunteer service and enduring friendships with UQ alumni and Graduate Women organisations in Australia and internationally. Dalma was also a generous benefactor to scholarships and education.
Above all, Dalma was devoted to family and remained deeply proud of those she loved. She will be remembered for her intelligence, wit, loyalty, independence, courage, love of music, bridge, strong sense of justice and enduring interest in the lives of others.
According to her wishes, Dalma will be privately cremated and her ashes interred with those of her late parents. Later, family and friends will gather to reflect upon her unique life.
Dalma was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
