Passed away peacefully on 1 August 2026. Late of “Courtlands Village” North Parramatta and formerly of North Rocks and Lapstone, NSW

Much loved mother of Sue Waterhouse, Dr Lynelle Osburn and Louise Stuart-Watt
Loving mother-in-law of Rev. Dr Ed Byford and aunt to Lee Kirkpatrick
Proudest of Grandmas to Cal, Peter, Julia, Lyle and Alexandra and great-grandmother to their children Erin, Wilbur and Rosalee.

After a career of 36 years, teaching and influencing NSW high school Home Economics students as Mrs “O”, Mavis commenced her Third Age with her appointment as the first, full-time employed
Co-ordinator of Volunteers at the (then) Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Camperdown NSW.

On moving to Adelaide, Mavis co-founded the Volunteer Centre of South Australia. Returning to Sydney, Mavis founded several community-based organisations in Penrith; the Disability Resource Centre, Penrith Volunteer Resource Centre and the Foundation for Creative Enterprise, Inc.

Mavis was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2002.
