23°CCharles Darwin University joins the NT & wider community in mourning the passing of Mr Richard Ryan AO.
Richard was a towering figure in the history of tertiary education in the Northern Territory, and his contribution to CDU and its predecessor institutions spanned more than two decades. From his early involvement with Darwin Community College through to his leadership as Chancellor, Richard played a defining role in shaping what CDU is today.
As Chancellor, he guided the University through its formative years, including the merger of institutions that created CDU, and remained a trusted source of wisdom and perspective to successive Vice-Chancellors and Council.
Richard’s contribution extended well beyond governance. His philanthropic support and community connections were instrumental in advancing key initiatives. He will be remembered for his integrity, his deep commitment to the Territory, and his belief in the transformative power of education. His legacy is embedded in the University and in the many people and communities who have benefited from his vision and leadership.
On behalf of Charles Darwin University, we extend our sincere condolences to Richard’s wife Trish, his family, and to all who knew and worked alongside him.
