Goodwin was a notable absentee on Sunday in Perth as his youthful Refs colleagues were crushed 4-0 by Glory at HBF Park.
The match was Adelaide's third in the space of eight days, following on from their 2-0 ACL Two loss to Lion City Sailors and 2-1 loss to Sydney FC.
Adelaide will be back in action on Thursday when they take on the Sailors in a re-match in Singapore, before returning home to host Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
Goodwin will miss the match in Singapore, but it's hoped he will be able to face Victory.
"Craig Goodwin's got some issues with the family, some illness in his family," Adelaide coach Airton Andrioli explained after the loss in Perth.
"His son and his wife, they were in hospital. Nothing major, but it was serious enough for him not to travel.
"So he will stay away with the family, looking after them, and then obviously be ready hopefully for when ... we've got a game against Victory on Sunday."
Adelaide's starting XI on Sunday featured eight Under-23 players, and their inexperience was telling as Glory scored three goals inside the first 33 minutes.
Andrioli had no regrets about picking such a young side, pointing out the need to rotate the squad during a hectic period.
"It's a joy to work with these kids," Andrioli said.
"Yes, we're going to make mistakes. We're going to struggle a bit in this phase because we are playing in two different competitions.
"We need to rotate the squad, so that brings a little bit of inconsistency. Players moving in and out and so forth.
"But I'd rather be in this position playing in Asia and playing the A-League."
Glory snared their first win of the season courtesy of goals to teenage defender Tadi Kuzamba, Jaiden Kucharski, Stefan Colakovski and Matthew Ellis.
Captain Tom Lawrence also played a vital role, but he has a one-game ban still hanging over his head for the scathing comments he made about the referee following the club's 2-1 loss to Macarthur in round one.
Glory have appealed against the ban, with Lawrence allowed to continue playing until the matter is heard.
That could be as early as this week, meaning Lawrence is in danger of missing Saturday night's clash with Newcastle in Perth.
"We're an entertainment business, so the main thing is that the viewer, the fans are entertained," Glory coach Adam Griffiths said.
"And if that means that players give their heart and how they feel, then I think it's best for the game.
"But at the same time, we have to respect the referees."
