Corey John Porter was drunk and started a heated verbal stoush with his neighbours over their dog's behaviour in the western Sydney suburb of Doonside in March 2024.
He escalated the war of words and hopped into his white SUV, revved its engine and ploughed it into the newly married couple.
"We did not ask for this to happen and in a split second my life changed forever," the wife said at Campbelltown District Court on Friday.
"Watching (my husband) struggle is a constant reminder of that night ... my back hurts and I struggle from terrible headaches.
"Shame on you Corey … you have shattered our lives forever".
Her husband was also in court, entering and leaving with a limp.
He suffered serious injuries to his head, chest and legs and required surgery to save his life.
His wife suffered bruising and a head injury too.
The couple's names have not been published at their request.
Porter, 31, watched on via video-link from prison with a freshly shaved beard and a buttoned-up green T-shirt.
"(He) has written a letter of apology to those victims … and to myself for representing him," his barrister told Judge Karen Robinson.
"He wants to stop hating himself ... he wants to get some assistance, move on with his life."
After a jury trial, Porter was found guilty of five offences including causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent.
In sentencing submissions, his barrister noted his struggles with alcoholism and delayed assistance to the couple on the night.
While it was a hit-and-run, Porter also dialled triple zero later that evening, the court was told.
He had also admitted to hitting the couple, but contested at trial the intent to cause serious injury, his barrister said.
Crown prosecutor Michael Clark stressed the drunk driver had used his car as a weapon.
Porter will be sentenced on October 22.
The couple will go on their delayed honeymoon soon after.
