A long-term lease between Federation Council and Amber Aviation to develop a flying academy at the Corowa Aerodrome is expected to be presented to council’s next monthly meeting on July 30.

Council has been in negotiations with Amber Aviation under an agreement to lease, since December 2018, to enter into a long-term lease to develop the pilot training academy with potential to employ 150 staff and train up to 500 students annually.
Council deferred a report presented to the June 2020 ordinary meeting, to allow further time to finalise the draft lease.
“These negotiations have almost finalised with both parties very close to agreement on final terms and conditions in the proposed lease document,” Federation Council’s director corporate and community services Jo Shannon said at council’s extraordinary meeting on Monday.
“Staff had intended that the lease would be finalised by this meeting. Subsequent meetings have revealed that this is not the case, and among the key items being finalised to allow the lease document to be finalised, is the required condition report of the assets on the site.
“It is anticipated that this will be finalised in the next week, to then allow final negotiations to occur, anticipating a lease be presented to the July 2020 ordinary Council meeting.”
Monday’s extraordinary meeting was originally called to adopt council’s draft 202/21 budget with the NSW State Government endorsing later presentations of budgets due to the coronavirus pandemic.
