Kate McFarlane has been a florist for more than eight years, operating Seed and Bloom in Wangaratta.
However, in June, she decided to move her flower shop to Benalla.
“I’ve been open for three weeks now,” Kate said.
Kate said she has loved the way the community has embraced her.
“I have found that people in Benalla are very appreciative of me being here,” she said.
“The people are welcoming, a lot of them have come in just to say hi and welcome to Benalla.”
While she is now selling her blooms in the Rose City, she has much more to offer than beautiful, north-east roses.
“I do giftware, candles, handwash, hand creams and bath bombs. There are vases, Japanese wares and plant pots.”
Of course, the bread and butter of Kate’s business are flowers.
“My love of flowers probably comes from time I spent in my grandmother’s garden,” she said.
“We have a good range of natives.
“We get fresh flowers every second day. My natives come from a local supplier, Tora Hills (based in Glenrowan West).”
Kate said on top of people coming in for a bouquet for the house or as a gift, she could also provide flowers for weddings and events.
“I do small intimate weddings, rather than the bigger ones,” she said.
“And the same with events. I’m on my own here, so can’t do anything too big.”
Kate said her big sellers since relocating to Benalla had been her range of natives, and some of the brighter flowers.
“People just love flowers,” she said.
