The local SES put out a minor flood warning for Benalla in the early part of Monday, August 10.

However, those in the Rose City keeping an eye on water levels might already have been aware, with community pages receiving updates as water rose under the stock bridge, known locally as ‘the Stocky’.

By early afternoon on Monday, the Stocky was closed and water had inundated the lakeside, flooding below the library and its adjoining car parks.
By 12.28pm the alert had been upgraded to a moderate flood warning.

This SES warning, issued via VicEmergency, predicted that river levels would peak at 3.71m by Monday afternoon.
This peak came at around 3pm, with waters thankfully beginning to recede not long after.

Several local roads were closed during the flooding, including the Midland Hwy to Shepparton.
At the time of writing, the Midland Hwy was still closed.
