The important update includes the collection of the Victorian Government’s Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund charge.
“The state government has legislated that councils collect the ESVF,” Mayor Bernie Hearn said.
Cr Hearn said council had expressed deep concern over the disproportionate impact on rural ratepayers and businesses with its introduction.
This charge appears as a separate line on rates notice and is not retained by council.
Even if a ratepayer specifies otherwise, any partial payment will be automatically split between council rates and the ESVF.
“It’s important for residents to understand that this charge is set by the Victorian Government, not council,” Cr Hearn said.
“We are simply the collection point.”
