NSW Police have released images of a man and a vehicle as they re-appeal for information over a series of deliberate summer bushfires near Mulwala, Rennie and Corowa.

In January 2026, Strike Force Lafayette was established to investigate several suspicious grass fires in and around Rennie.
The roadside fires were reported between December 28 last year and January 6.
Albury police issued an appeal for information on January 8, which was followed by another blaze the following day.
A man and vehicle were seen near a bushfire off Whitehead Street in Corowa on January 9.
Images of the man and vehicle have now been released to the public in an effort to identify the suspect, or suspects.
Most of the fires in the Rennie area were lit on roadsides, including on Bull Plain Road and near a property on Pattersons and Summerglen roads.
At about 11.45am on January 5, emergency services responded to Bull Plain Road, Rennie, following reports of a grass fire.
Rural Fire Service volunteers responded and extinguished the blaze, which burnt a small area of grassland. No property was damaged.
At about 6.40pm on Tuesday, January 6, emergency services responded to a property on Pattersons and Summerglen Road, Rennie, following reports of a grass fire. About one hectare of grassland was burnt and no property was damaged.
Murray River Police District officers and Northern Region police said last Tuesday, May 19, the man photographed on a bike near the Corowa fire is aged between 30 and 40.

He is described as being between 175 and 180 centimetres tall and of heavy build.
“He was seen wearing a red baseball cap, sunglasses, a black T shirt with red branding, blue and black Unit shorts, and black running shoes,” a police spokesperson said.
“The vehicle is described as a white Ford Ranger utility fitted with a tradesman style canopy.”
