Duncan Lucas, Executive Director for Road Safety Regulation at Transport for NSW, said the Driver Knowledge Test Online allows people to complete the learner theory test at home or anywhere with internet access, making it easier to access the driver licensing process in NSW.
“Learning to drive is an important step towards independence, and language should not be a barrier,” Mr Lucas said.
“Since its launch, the DKT Online is already available in English and Simplified Chinese.
“By offering the test in multiple community languages, we’re reducing language barriers and helping people from diverse backgrounds better understand the road rules and stay safe on NSW roads.”
To better support culturally and linguistically diverse communities, Transport for NSW has started the rollout of seven new languages across 2026.
Arabic, Vietnamese and Spanish were added in April, with Korean available from June, and Farsi, Traditional Chinese and Thai from October.
Once available, customers can select their preferred language from the welcome screen after enrolling through the Service NSW website via MyServiceNSW.
Mr Lucas said, the online test has improved access for many people to get their licence, including those living in regional areas.
“These new languages match translations already available for the Road User Handbook and reflect the needs of NSW communities,” Mr Lucas said.
“Better access to road safety education means more confident, informed drivers and safer roads for everyone.”
According to Transport for NSW, more than 400,000 customers have enrolled in the Driver Knowledge Test online since July 2024, with four in five (80%) choosing to complete the test digitally.
