Police launch Cup weekend road blitz

Motorists are being urged to slow down, drive to conditions, avoid distractions such as mobile phones, and never get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Drivers are also reminded to wear seatbelts, ensure passengers are properly restrained and take regular breaks on long trips.

Acting Sergeant Joseph McKeown said the operation was aimed at keeping road users safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

“Slow down, take an extra second to check what’s around you. We all deserve to get home in one piece,” he said.
